@Judaline.  There are more colds and viruses in winter than at any other times of year.

@Kachina624   I agree. Kids go back to school and college, Christmas and Thanksgiving holidays gatherings and kids coming home bring all the germs w/ them.

There are bacterial or viral infections. Germs to blame for catching these or unavoidable?

@Judaline ............Its inside in enclosed buildings that the germs are, not outside.  Used to be in the spring people would open windows and doors and the inside would be "aired" out, and those without AC would have them open all summer, hence not much illness in the summers.   But with everyone using AC now the germs and bacteria just stay inside and multiply and people are ill all year around.

When Spring finally came I always opened all the windows to let the fresh air in after being cooped up all winter. But my kids always got sick in Spring-made it thru the winter but as soon as Spring hit, they got sick. Thinking back............they probably went outside thinking it was summer and took off their jackets. And of course they all got sick (but I didn't see it then). I had five of them so they probably got it from each other-but it was always Spring time. And it was our pediatrician who told me the cold weather will kill the germs.

Your replies were interesting, and  @Imaoldhippie you don't offend me. Don't ever worry about that!Woman Happy

Re: Whatever happened to

[ Edited ]

Our little neighbor girl has already had three (or maybe even 4 colds) since school started. I don't remember having that many as a child her age in the 50's.  I do remember the grade school, middle schools, and high schools all had windows that opened for fresh air. Also our homes were not all air-conditioned in the 50's, 60's, and some even into the 70's and 80's.

That was my first thought too.

I wish I could open all of my windows in the Spring, but with my allergies, I'd be sick for days!

I think most kids are inside more these days- on phones, computers, ipads etc. Even in winter, we were outside sledding, skating, skiing. I rarely see kids outdoors in my area even in nice weather. My kids are in their early 20's and i used to beg them to go outside and play or do something other than sit inside.

Take time every day to enjoy where you are without a need to fix it
