@Queen of shop  We can start a band!   Instead of becoming a  violinist  and succeeding at that  (my parents dream), I always wanted to play bass, electric bass.  They hold down the band, along with the drummer of course.  I actually lived my dream, I bought one a few years ago, I'm totally self taught.  ROCK ON!!

Back when I went school and growing up I didn't know that I could have a real career - just doomed to being a housewife and mother which was never for me!!  I never played house, dreamed of a wedding and husband etc.  Guidance counseling was mainly the counselor telling the girls they would meet a nice boy and raise a wonderful  family so go work at a 5 and 10 store until then!   I found over the years seeing what was out there, I would have liked being a gemologist.

When I was young, I was interested in so many different things.  I wanted to be a writer, a dancer, an archaeologist, a librarian, a flight attendant.  I was all over the place!  I still think that being an archaeologist would be the most fascinating thing!

Re: What would have been your dream career?

When I was in high school, I acted in two plays we put on the public. Every year the senior class did a senior class play, our's was "You Can't Take It With You", had a part in it, LOVED IT. Then I had a class in acting my senior year and we put on a small play in which I had a part, "Beat It Beatnik".

So much stinking fun to be on stage acting for the masses.

I wanted to do this when I grew up - become an actress on Braodway. It was my dream job which never came to fruition.

When I was in high school we took these tests that told us what our career choices should be. Mine was a Forest Ranger! Everyone was shocked. Hubbs says today I am a forest ranger.

Sure could use a little good news today.

I love dancing, when I was younger and in much better shape, my career dream was to become a professional dancer in the entertainment industry.  It just wows me to watch dancers on stage performing.

I have a lot of interests. But I always wanted to teach, and I always loved music. That has been and is my career.

But to go a little further.... The dream would be a playwright or the harpist for a major orchestra. I dabble at plays now, but only for the family. I did play in an orchestra for a time, but location put the kibosh on that!

Re: What would have been your dream career?

I did have my dream job.  I was a dental assistant for over 30 years.  I loved the connection with the patients and being supportive for the fearful ones.   I had an accident at a young age and had a fair amount of dental work.  I remembered the assistant that worked with my dentist back then and she was the sweetest person.  I wanted to do what she did and I did..........I also met my DH (dentist) in the field and have lived happily ever after Smiley Happy

@LizzieInSRQ  I loved your reply!  I would have paid them, the Rolling Stones to let me do just that!!  (LOL)

Re: What would have been your dream career?

I had a lot of ideas but never the courage to actually go after them. My longest career was helping new mothers breastfeed their babies but that didn't pay the bills well. I was never financially successful with a career. Late in life I went back to school to become a licensed social worker and found that medical social work was mostly saying no to patients, listening to complaints, and doing paperwork and insurance claims. We had no power to effect any positive change in the medical system and that felt oppressive to me as an employee and human being. I worked in hospitals twice in two different careers and hated how patients were treated both times. But now, I have realized my true vocation was giving care or help to other humans.

Detachment isn't the absence of love but the ability to take care of yourself in the midst of someone else's choices.
