What was your most memorable 4th of July?

I remember when I lived in Florida in a high rise condo. On July 4th I could go out on my back balcony and see fire works from 5 different areas. Breathtaking! Then when you went to the ocean side of condo people with parties and more fireworks. I was 12 stories up what a view. When all was done my daughter said to me we are going to have a firecracker to. I was puzzled . She said she was expecting a baby. Best 4th of July ever!

Re: What was your most memorable 4th of July?

Not a specific 4th, but I remember as a child we always hosted my mother's family reunion.  She was one of 9 children so there were a lot of first cousins.  We'd spend the day on the beach, most of us getting sunburned.  There was a ton of food, hamburgers and hot dogs, corn on the cob and watermelon.  At night we went to the fireworks and the Dairy Queen.

Because most of my relatives lived 1-2 hours away, some stayed overnight.  The kids slept on the porches. (we were across the road from the beach so you heard the surf all night)  My older cousins told ghost stories.  It was a special time.

My mother died over 40 years ago and we've not seen most of her relatives since her funeral. I do have my memories.

Re: What was your most memorable 4th of July?

This has always been one of my favorite holidays.

Since DH and I have owned a boat, we always spend the day at the boat dock with friends having a big dock party.  Then in the evening, if the water was calm enough and the weather good enough, several of us would take a boat or 2 out on the lake, anchor by the lighthouse and watch the fireworks display done by the city.  Then we'd head back to the dock and party some more.   If the water was too rough, we'd all head to the yacht club and watch from the balcony but there was nothing like being on the water, up close and personal to see them.

July 4, 1976.  American Bicentennial.  For those too young to remember, the entrire country partied like it had never before (at least, maybe not since July 4, 1876.)

I went to summer camp or worked at summer camp for years. It was hard to give up for a 12-months a year job, so when I finally got a regular job, I still worked at camp every weekend for one summer. On the night of July 4, I left camp for the 2 hour drive home and somehow managed to pass by the fireworks displays from 4 different towns on the way home. That was pretty neat.

1976 Bicentennial Year fireworks in our area was the most awesome I have ever seen. It was actaully a bit scary. DH sadi it was close to an artillery barrage with compression waves and all.
