I gretly enjoyed being a docent at a historical museum. I toured children and teens and adults. I'd do it again if my health improves.
I didn't mind the children but many of the other docents wouldn't want to tour them because they were from underprivileged area or children of color. Not me, I enjoyed them all. I'd use the hand puppets and would instruct the children on various things.
I was a STAR reader as well at the regional library for the children. I also enjoyed that as well. Maybe someday.

I volunteered with our local Red Cross Chapter taking calls for Service to Military overnight and weekends and then got involved with fundraising for them, volunteered with the Women's Help Center, work with a local Historical Group for the little community I grew up in and just recently resigned from helping a local art gallery. . .the non profits really need volunteers.

I volunteer at a nearby elementary/middle school in the cafeteria for 3 hours a week. I am a retired teacher and I like interacting with the students.

I've done all kinds of volunteer work over the years. Two of them made the greatest impact on me: my work in a hospice and my work inside a women's prison. Working with prisoners is very humbling and takes great heart and empathy.

just ask your local office , maybe they have some ways you could help part time ?
You'd be surprised local Senior groups help the local community in many ways.
Just reach out and ask to help.
I've been involved in doing volunteer work with various groups on and off for 45 years .
Caught the volunteer bug at age 22 , can only say all my yrs as a Girl Scout and having a closenet family that helped one another prepared me to volunteer.
Also, hearing the 1961 Inaugural address of JFK " Ask Not what your Country can do for you - ask what you can do for your Country ". Means to me that I should be helping the less fortunate in the USA .
I think we need that feeling of conectiveness now a days to help solve some of our societal problems

When I was working I volunteered one morning a week at a local elementary school with the dentist. We had a small operatory in the nurse's office and did fluoride treatments, restorations and extractions on poor children whose families could not afford to take them in for care.
It was in a very rural area, lots of farms and some of these people didn't own vehicles, only a tractor! We did this for many years until the state cut the supply funding sadly.
It was a nice feeling to use my training in this way.

I would love to be a baby rocker/cuddler in a large hospital. I would have to travel at least 1 hour in order to volunteer in this capacity.
Many years ago I volunteered with kids that had been sexually abused, we were led by a local therapist.

A hospital. (but they have stopped alot of volunteer work.
I donated 2 days a week for about 3 years at our local hospital in the 90's. I wanted a busy job and asked for one and got it!
They put me on "patient menu" where I had to go to every room,
except Hospice, ICU, and diabetic of course. There were 400 rooms.
I got there at 7:30 in the morning and got my instructions and patient menu's together. I helped those that could not fill out there own choice's and talked to anyone who was alone.
Then after that I had to go back to all the room's and pick up the menu's so they could have it for lunch. I was running to be sure.
A few thing's I'll never forget. One was a young boy about 26 who had to have his leg amputated and I spent time with him. Hw was so sad. The other was the "HIV" isolation section and I was told I did not have to enter the room but I wanted to as I knew this young man was alone. If I could put a smile on someone's' face it was worth it.
I always felt so happy when I got in my car at 12:30 pm and left for the day.
Volunteering is indeed rewarding.
