What volunteer work would make you appreciate where you are in today's world?

[ Edited ]

Just read a comment on Face Book and this was the question I wanted to ask this person.  I didn't of course, but it's a good question to ponder if you need to count your blessings today.  My own answer would be, a hospital/nursing home setting.  I would be reminded to count my blessings.

And I'd add a big thank you to those who work these jobs.  What would we do without you?!!  Hope to never find out. (That's why I said, "volunteer"  - not a real job.)

I wish that in some way I could contribute to the police force ...the moral is low and when I am able to I always mention how much I appreciate their efforts.  They always respond with gratitude.  Don't know in what capacity I could voluntarily work...but I sure appreciate their presence in today's world.

For many years, I volunteer once a week to teach a very easy art class at the nursing home nearby. I enjoy it and it keeps their minds and time occupied....very quick and not complicated projects.

I used to do makeup at Dress for Success, but they've now moved further away and not in a great part of town.

Volunteering does make you feel so good inside that you're helping someone. It also makes me hope others will volunteer, but it's a time committment. They count on you being there.

Years ago I did volunteer work with three other people at a Homeless Shelter.   We would go once month to feed the people staying at the shelter.   We didn't like the food that we were supposed to serve.  So we decided to go out and purchase food out of our own pockets and prepare the meals in the kitchen at the shelter.   Everyone appreciated our efforts and always looked forward to when it was our turn to go.  It was the most rewarding thing I have ever done.

I volunteered once a month for many years at a soup kitchen in NYC.  We would serve over 1,000 people in a 3 hour span.  It was an eye opener and I am eternally grateful for the experience.

I've been a volunteer at our local food bank for ten years. I'm fortunate that I don't need their help.
When I started volunteering, there were more families coming for food. These days, it's mostly seniors and homeless who need food, sad.

I volunteered for our local mountain search and rescue when I was young and healthier. I would do it again in a heartbeat if I could.

I have been volunteering almost 5 years at my local SPCA.  I help clean-laundry, dishes, dog and cat kennels  I was the assistant for 8 weeks of summer camp for the children which we completed last Friday.   I am the transport driver ,  driving our van bringing back animals from more rural areas to our facility.   I also help out with events.   Volunteering gives meaning to my life.
