I hope you find a great solution, but try to remember
your mother is not the Hummels. She and your memories
will always be with you.

Anyone remember when QVC sold Hummels for a brief time? That was many years ago. Maybe twenty? I think there was even a Hummel TSV. That was right before the factory in Germany stopped manufacturing them because of declining sales.
The statues are so charming it's a shame no one wants them these days. They do bring a smile to your face. Maybe in twenty years they will be in demand again, after everyone has given their mother's and grandmother's collection away. Just like that horrid "mid-century" furniture that is so hot these days (shudder) after decades of everyone making fun of it.

Their faces are so sweet! I only have 1. It's a large infant Jesus in a manger. Probably about 3.5" across and 6" long. My Great Aunt gave it to me and I cherish it. I think it's from the early/mid 50s if I am interpretting the mark correctly. Probably pass it to my niece someday.

I bought mine while living in Germany - am praying they are still stored out in the shed but have "lost" so much stuff in the past few years, who knows. No room in the house for them. They are such gorgeous things. When in Germany lived in a 5 story home - plenty of room. Those old homes in that country - left standing - were unbelievably gorgeous and useful.
First floor, complete living quarters for the fireman. Fired by huge coal furnaces and radiators throughout the home - always comfy. Also 3 car wide garage. This was actually dug down a bit below ground level - you drove down to the garage. The fireman had a full time job, but he stoked the furnace for night and he could sleep. Course he took naps during the day - remember him well. He and his wife had their own place but he was there 7 days a week. Sweetheart. Herr Mischalki.
Main floor, entryway, family room, den, bathroom living room, large kitchen separate dining room and huge pantry. Also large closet near front door. Large "washroom" where the chute you dropped your dirty clothes in it went to. What a journey.
Second floor, three bedrooms, each with it's own very large bathroom and dressing room, Cannot remember those things in the bathroom, can describe what they are for but we called bird baths. LOL. Way ahead of time Seems to me there was something else but cannot remember.
Third Floor, 2 bedroom ,each with it's own bath and shared dressing room. Very large Large hall with cabinets, etc.
Attic was the fifth floor - completely livable, 2 bedroom and one bath.
This house just blew my mind when we moved in - belonged to a Nazi. We were the last Americans to live there and the German Lady who came by to check the house before she got it back was the nastiest human I have ever encountered. She was MAD at US I guess for winning the war. She made out OK because what this government does - in case you do not know. We RENT the house and then make all repairs necessary or they request. Am sure most were pure thieves. Quite an experience. The house kind of got a tad smaller the higher it got but would sure love to live in that house now.
Forgot to mention that all the radiators were under windows as I recall. They had seats built over the radiators so people/kids could sit there and look out. Radiators were covered in front by beautiful latticework - I think wood - guess it was safe. All windows had beautiful window boxes of flowers on the outside. Wow!!
Have always said that nation was a nation of intelligence personified - very true.

It's not just Hummels .. The kids today care about nothing and don't take care of anything ...they don't even do housework ... I want to leave my jewelry to my grand daughter but the way they live it would just be lost ...so I am considering selling it and leaving them the money ....sad ...oh well ...

have you tried auction groups or buy/sell groups on facebook?
it is a great way to get rid of unwanted or unused items.
you can post your item and make a few dollars. they could be posted as a set or all individually.

@momtochloeYou might check to see if there is a museum that would like to have them.
I would take a picture of the set and then frame it for yourself. There is always room for a picture.

I have a different twist on this conversation. My mother is 90 and doesn't want to give anything away. And she does have some things that I consider lovely. She has given my brother a few things and would give him more things if he asked. Since she is this way it takes away my desire to want any of her things.

Check eBay for prices. They probably don't bring a lot, I'm afraid, but all you need is to find one collector who appreciates them. Good luck.
