They are the "in" critter of the moment for advertising.....  It used to be cats (remember Morris, the Fancy Feast Persian, Grumpy cat), dogs (Snoopy-MetLife, Spud McKenzie-beer, Bullseye-Target, Gidget for Taco Bell, the westie for Caesar dog food, Barkley family for Subaru), the Chick-Filet-A cows, the cows in Lactose free milk, then there's Elsie and Elmer), horses-Budweiser.....and of course the infamous lizard for Geico.......  People seem to like the critter commercials.....

Animals are reliable, full of love, true in their affections, grateful. Difficult standards for people to live up to.”

I think they run in cycles.  Owls right now, previously there was a period when a lot of the commercials featured chickens.  Prior to that it was llamas.  Can't remember what it was before that.
