Re: What's Up For St. Patrick's Day?

What a wonderful thread, Noel!

I am an Irish lass as my grandmother used to call me....

The Irish cake was served in our home once a week on Sunday's. My grandmother (who was from Dublin) always said it was more of a bread than a cake. She lived with us my entire childhood so she had some wonderful stories about Ireland and growing up on a farm.Smile

I hope everyone has a wonderful St. Patrick's Day.....in our home it is the same as a National Holiday and we enjoy celebrating with a dinner out. (my corned beef and cabbage leaves something to be desired){#emotions_dlg.laugh}

Re: What's Up For St. Patrick's Day?

Sunday is the St. Patrick's Day parade in Philadelphia and they are predicting decent weather. Both our son and daughter will bring their families to join us for the festivities.

As I live near QVC, Tuesday I might stop by to see what's going on there. Past years it was great fun when they had all day festivities.

Thanks Noel! We aren't in Phoenix but we've gone there & to Prescott before to shop so it might be fun to plan a trip to see their festivities & celebration. Great recipes! Thanks! Think I'll try that version of colcannon.....sounds good. The Barmbrack sounds do-able for me since its not a complicated yeast one like I saw my MIL make.

Jessa, I did find a yeast one! I skipped over it because I am yeast-phobic, LOL. When I was in my 20s, every time I tried to bake something with yeast, I killed the little guys {#emotions_dlg.scared}

But if you change your mind and want the yeast recipe, too, I can find it for you Smile

I remember the old Q St. Patrick's Day shows, they were so much better! The had a pub set-up and live music. Wonderful, but then there were complaints from the terminally discontented {#emotions_dlg.devil2}
