I think my decorating comes from being a teacher. I decorated for all the seasons and holidays.
I do the same at home. When my son was younger, I did a lot more decorating. Nothing fancy. It helps to have some fun and color over the LONG, cold winter.
I am sure you treasure the shillelagh.
I didn't know you were a teacher, Donna! Of course you're an expert on decorating. How about DIY? My mother was good at crafts and made a lot of her decorations, I'm not that crafty, it skipped a generation. My girl is good at it. I head to Michael's for the ready-made
Hi Noel,
I should have said, a former teacher. I guess you didn't read my mind as I was writing that post in a hurry. lol lol
I do enjoy some crafting. I do a bit of counted cross stitch almost every day.

I do have a mani scheduled for Friday, so might get a clover design on a few fingers.I just read that Irish apple cake is popular, I'm thinking of making one is those this weekend. I've never had it before.

I always decorated my home for this holiday every thing green shamrocks in the windows. green lights over every thing, green wreaths on the doors etc. This year we have so much going on I didn't even hang my 5ft. all decorated and lighted up shamrock in my window. I would when he was little watch my nephew and he and I would cook the whole dinner including green desserts. I have little shot glasses and bigger glasses we would have our drinks in ( he got ginger ale or some green drink) hats for everyone to wear I just made a big deal out of the day. I belong to a club and we always had a dance and had our hall decorated to the hilt had a Irish band all the Irish food we served. Those people who came to that dance came to party and they did. Now all of them are either gone or in nursing homes. But all those good times sure left a lot of memories. My children could never understand how I got so into this holiday when we are polish and slavish. they would tease me all the time, and they still do when I decorate the house in all my green decorations.

I can eat anything that has the words "apple" or "cake" in it! I've tried to like corned beef and cabbage, but I really find it disgusting.
And overall, I'm someone who gets into a wide variety of holiday foods from every culture.

Both my grandmothers taught me to crochet. I made some simple things in my youth. My husband's paternal grandmother, Nana, taught me to knit. I made my husband a scarf while we were dating. God love him, he wore it mistakes and all. lol
My dmil knitted my son Irish sweaters throughout his growing years. I've saved them for him.
If I lived near you, I would teach you.
Think of the fun we would have.......

September don't feel bad every year I make the corn beef and cabbage dinner. I have made it a 100 different ways and my family will eat it but they would rather not. My kids are older adults and every year they ask me why do I insist on cooking this when none of us really enjoy it? I just say its tradition and they say yes for Irish families but we are polish we are stuff cabbage, kielbasa ,pirogues people.

I don't feel too badly, cater....we could go out, and my husband could have it there, if he'd like.
We tried this once, and he didn't even order it at the restaurant.
I don't know yet, what we'll have that night. One time, I made grilled reuben sandwiches that have some of the same ingredients, and we like those! But I think they're actually a Jewish specialty. I could do that again, or we could have what always works....Mexican food!
