Stix Baer & Fuller; my mom took us Christmas shopping in St Louis. Wolf and Dessauer in Fort Wayne, Indiana. They had the best Christmas windows! Also, Stillmans in Fort Wayne.

I'm going to date myself but I really miss BlockBuster video stores. I know with all of the streaming services hardly anyone views DVD's any longer. I still do, and I also have a large selection of DVD's. I know many have parted with their DVD's but I'll never get rid of mine.
With the video stores there was just something fun about going there on Friday night and choosing your movies to view over the week-end. I know they still have RedBox kiosks at some locations but it isn't the same as video stores.
As someone else already mentioned the department store called Mervyns is also on my list of stores that I really miss. That was such a fun store to wander through when I was at the mall.

ITA. End of an era.
When Macy's bought it, it just wasn't and isn't the same.

Every Saturday for years that was my last stop of the day getting at least one new release and one classic favorite. Then hit the drop off box on my way to the office every Monday morning. I loved Block Buster. (I still have a VHS machine and drawers of movies)![]()

Joske's San Antonio downtown location. It was a beautifully done upscale department store. Their Christmas was over the top.

Oh wow! Thank you to all the people who responded to this- I recall many that you have mentioned. I could add Woolworths for a good cup of coffee at the lunch counter too. Ah, the decades gone by... As one who grew up in Iowa I will add Killians, Armstrong's and Seiferts Dept. Stores. I really miss Pier One now.

I'm going way, way back to two chains from the 60s and 70s in Almart and Two Guys. Almart had two Delaware stores (Concord Mall and Kirkwood Highway) while Two Guys had two (maybe more) NJ stores. One in Vineland and one in Cherry Hill.
Almart was a typical discount department store but with large greenhouses and pet shops. Many plants and pets were bought there as I grew up.
Two Guys were the first supercenter model stores around. They had a full grocery store, department store, furniture store, electronics, pet shop, building supplies, car center, and more.
There's just nothing comparable to them around now. You could literally build and fully furnish a house from a Two Guys store. They sold everything.
Both of those chains were nearly perfect stores for me.

Goldmsith's, especially the Oak Court mall store on Poplar in Memphis. Macy's acquired them a while back, but it was never the same.
