@mistriTsquirrel

I just read your post about your oven being broken.  About two years ago we all had a horrible virus for Thanksgiving and were too sick to cook, so we pre-ordered the entire meal at Mollie Stone's.

Safeway also makes an entire Thanksgiving dinner, if you're interested.

Beyond roast turkey breast and the usual sides, I found a recipe for  pear and dried cherry pie with brown sugar streusel, and I think I have to make it.🍐🍒

@QVCkitty1, that pie sounds delicious.  Please let me know how it is.  I'm a pretty good cook, but baking isn't my thing.  My beloved mother in law, who I loved and adored, made the best pie crust I've ever eaten.  She tried and tried and tried to teach me.  She finally told me I might want to stick with the frozen ones I always use - lol.  I'd do better at learning quantum physics than I'll ever be at making pie crust!

@Its Me LuLuBelle2, My grandma taught me to make pie crust , but she used lard, so mine will never be as good. If I do make the pie, I'll write a review.

I think you can use Crisco in place of lard and it comes out great.  Maybe we have a serious baker who can tell us.

@Noel7 My mother and gramie always used lard ,and they were pie bakers. My mom never made cakes, because my dad was a pie eater. They felt lard made the flakest crust

Hi @cherry

My mother thought so too, but a lot of people don't want to eat lard because it's pig fat, especially Jewish or Muslim people and vegetarians.

CORN PUDDING

@momtochloe

I've been looking for an old fashioned corn pudding recipe and came across this one last week.  I thought you might like to look it over.  I haven't tried it yet, but according to the food blogger, it's an old family favorite.  I'll post the link also, which I deem to be safe since I've already been there a couple of times Smiley Happy

Grandmama's Corn Pudding

Serves 10-12.

Ingredients:

2 (14.75 oz) cans cream style corn*
4 Tbsp butter
4 Tbsp flour
6 Tbsp sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1 cup milk (whole, 2%, skim, soy, whatever you have on hand, they'll all work!)

*you can also use 1 can drained whole kernel in place of 1 can cream style for a thicker consistency

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350. Melt butter. In an 8x8 pyrex casserole dish*, mix melted butter with sugar and flour. Add beaten egg and mix.

Add corn and milk. Mix all. Bake for 1 hour.

*make sure you use a flat dish to bake, and not a bowl. The bowl shape will cause it to cook unevenly, and your center will be too runny.

Re: What is on your Turkey Day menu?

Hello, again, @momtochloe.   I was in Publix today looking out for a tiny turkey, fresh, organic, etc.

And there was a tiny one, fresh, and the person putting them out in the meat section told me that this was their only shipment and the small ones go first.

So I have the turkey already and may hold "Thanksgiving" on Sunday.  I am not sure about a bird lasting that long in the fridge, especially my fridge, which is not the best.

Why not make Thanksgiving a "moveable feast"?  I can still have my favorite food thing on Thurs, the turkey soup, and I have a friend lined up for Sunday dinner.  Home run.  I always have lots of veggies.  I may or may not go out to buy dessert.  Turkey has that tryptophan (sp?) and it's better than dessert for a happy mood after dinner.
