My youngest baby is 37 years old and I still have it. It was used for all three of my children.
I always give gorgeus $$$ baby blankets. It's a can't miss present. If I don't know the colors of the nursery, I buy white too.
I know they have decorated the nursery with multi colored elephants
Cute. I almost went with that as the theme for my girls' baby shower. So, if you decide on a baby blanket, you can choose any color that appeals to you. Or you could choose bibs or receiving blankets or anything with pastel elephants.

Both my daughter and daughter-in-law loved car seat covers. They keep the baby warm...often fleece inside...and there is no struggling with jackets, extra blankets. They run about $30.00 at Babies R Us. Good especially if the baby will be born in the winter.

Yup, books.
GREAT idea! Books are never a bad choice!
Whenever I've bought any clothes for a baby, I assume everyone else is giving things for a new born, so I get things Mom will use at the 6 to 12 month mark. Babies grow so darn fast and all the cute newborn things will be given away in just a couple months.

I'm not sure if this was mentioned but another place to check for a registry is buybuybaby.com. Another place that has great blankets and bath sets, etc., is littlegiraffe.com. Little Giraffe is sold at Nordstrom, I'm sure other stores, too, but very nice stuff and if you order online the presentation is very nice.

I entirely recommend "Baby Einstein" play gym... months and months of fun!

I always start a library of books for the baby. Some for when they are very young and a few for when they become two, three, four.
Unless a mother is very in need of the basics, most women get a ton of clothing and other things, but not many give books.
The books will be used when the clothing is outgrown, the diapers used up, and the other things stored in the attic or basement for the next baby.
