Re: What is a nice baby gift?

I usually give a minky blanket which I make myself, but they are easy to find.

Another suggestion is a car seat canopy.

Babies are no longer "allowed" blankets until they are older,  but the swaddlers sleeping bags are very popular.

The blanket I received that I still have is not a blanket for the crib.  It is a beautiful blanket to wrap up an infant.  I also is used to cover a baby in a car seat or stroller.

Re: What is a nice baby gift?

Our daughter had a baby boy eight months ago. She got more than enough clothes and the usual baby gifts. The ones she appreciated the most were diapers and wipes. She didn't have to buy any for about four months. They were different sizes so as he grew she already had that size on hand. Not a fancy gift but were well received. Congrats on having a granddaughter.

Re: What is a nice baby gift?

I had a baby gift to buy recently, and the mother had registered at a local store.  I bought a gift from her registry, and she was thrilled.

Re: What is a nice baby gift?

I like to give practical gifts. BUT, for my oldest dearest friend, when she had her first, I gave her a Tooth Fairy box. Used to place the tooth in and put under a pillow for the tooth fairy to find. She loved it.

She has said she and her son had fun with it and he is now a grown man using it with his kids!!

Re: What is a nice baby gift?

I try to go out past the initial baby time and pick up something for the 12 mon. or older child.  Diapers to be used in a larger size for later can be a real help with an expense down the road.  All the newborn to 3 month gifts are adorable but time marches on and more items are needed in the mess of the day to day life the new Mom & Dad.

I have also given a gift card to a nice restaurant for the parents to use in the future when they need a night out, of just do not want to cook.

I also believe in buying something practical and from her registry if she has one.  Anymore, I give a gift card.  My great niece's shower is this coming weekend and she is registered at Target so picked up a Target gift card and she can buy things she needs or use it toward bigger items.

Re: What is a nice baby gift?

My friends daughter just had a baby. I gave her a beautifully bound book of fairy tales with a generous check inside. Both my friend & her daughter were thrilled!! She got so many gifts of items she didn't want, including duplicates & triplicates. They were thrilled with the cash.

I know from when I had my son years ago I got beautiful outfits that he grew out of before he could even wear them.I would have preferred cash or gift certificates.I ended up giving away a lot of expensive clothes with the tags still on them.

I heard that they did away with savings bonds. Was I told wrong?

They did away with paper Savings Bonds about 5 years ago, I believe.  You buy them electronically now.   I think that is great idea.  I know I lost track of half the bonds people gave me girls over the years.
