Re: What do you stock up on before a storm?

I have a full house generator so the only thing I really stock up on is food and propane.

Am I the only one who gets Maple cookies, jelly sticks and chips?

I always have snacks and staples on hand, so I don't rush out to stock up on stuff before a storm. We don't drink cow milk, and we always have shelf stable almond or soy milk on hand, so that's not an issue. I am constantly making my own soups and freezing them, so I always have that too.

I laugh when people say they buy bread, milk and eggs. I cannot remember the last time I purchased a loaf of bread and the only time we have eggs is when I need them for baking. We use a quart of milk every 10 days or so.

I used to think it was odd people stocked up on that stuff before a storm, but I think those with kids go through a lot of milk, bread, and eggs. We don't drink cow milk, but we do go through a lot of eggs in my house. I have a bread machine and ingredients to make homemade bread at all times, so I could easily whip up a loaf if I needed bread.

A good single-malt scotch, and dog food.

What's a good single malt scotch?

The only way I have tried scotch was drambue (spelling?)

Glenlivet is a good one, but not cheap. Scotch is an acquired taste, not for everyone.....I acquired it. {#emotions_dlg.biggrin}

Drambuie is a liqueur, a scotch based drink, with honey, herbs & spices.....quite sweet. Not the same as drinking plain scotch at all.

CHEERS! And stay warm!

We don't stock up storm by storm. We get what we need early in the winter and we're covered. I do make sure that there is plenty of ice in the freezer and jugs of water in the fridge. I never did understand the people who race out and load up on milk and bread...as if they are going to be snowed in for a week.

yes, not only do we have bread, but we usually have to have at least four different kinds of bread! we go through at least 2 gallons of milk per week, and more if i make yogurt. eggs i can get away with a dozen a week, sometimes more if i decide to do some baking or make egg salad.

the toilet paper is always at the top of the list. {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

The bread shelves are always empty in my area whenever there is bad weather....#1 because people rush out to buy it...and #2 because trucks are not out delivering it in bad weather.

Re: What do you stock up on before a storm?

Storm is due tomorrow and Thursday - latest guess is 6-12 inches. Got gas in the car and went to the grocery store and walked out with K-cups, 1/2 and 1/2 and some veggies. Even with a lot of snow we can get out within 2 days. I will have to go back out tomorrow for gas for the generator (hoping I don't need to use it).

Around here 12 inches of snow will put this place at a stand still. The back roads and residential won't be plowed for days. Being stuck in for a week would not be unheard of.
