Re: What, You Don’t Watch TV

I am in the tv as background noise group too. It's rare I sit and watch something.

I think the reaction you're getting from people like me may be that a lot of the popular shows that people talk about are on a streaming service and I don't have that kind of money or time to subscribe.

TV really lost me when they started cancelling new shows after one or two airings. I don't need to waste my time on shows they won't even give a chance to find an audience.

Most of what I watch is soap operas or classic tv I can recite at will yet never gets old. Give Norman Lear a job and I might come back.

Re: What, You Don’t Watch TV

I'm home a great deal more than I used to be so the TV is on much of the time. However, I also started reading more and I find that a good book is more relaxing than some of the crapola that dominates the airwaves. The one type of TV show I will not watch is so-called reality television, which is anything but. I don't appreciate the contrived situations and scripted dramas that permeate these productions.

I worked for a bunch of doctors.  Two of those doctors were married and didn't want to raise their two children with TV.  So, no TV's in the house.

If I'm home, my TV is on even though I may not be watching it.....but I do watch a lot (evenings and weekends) and don't feel guilty about it.  It's my form of relaxation and stress release.

However, I do know several people who do not watch much and many don't even own TVs.

Re: What, You Don’t Watch TV

I don't watch any series TV shows.  I don't want to get invested in them, where I'd  have to watch every episode. I do watch Food Network; I don't cook, and HGTV; I don't garden or renovate.  And CNN is on all the time.

I'm on my computer much more than I watch TV.  I will turn on the TV when I'm in the kitchen or working in the basement...usually put on the Q or the news.  Sometimes I'll watch HGTV but it's really been a very long time since I have.

Several times a week DH and I will watch a show or series that's on one of the streaming services but I almost never watch regular TV shows anymore.  We're currently watching "While Lotus" that's on HBO.

I too, would rather read than watch television, but I do watch my fair share of tv. Especially in the winter months, in the evenings after work. I have my shows that I watch every week....

Now my husband has the tv on all the time, whereas on lets say a Saturday morning-I don't necessarily need the tv on -sometimes its just nice to have quietness!

Except for sports, I rarely watch TV. I stream.

When someone says they don’t watch TV you probably should clarify the question because it’s possible that they do streaming instead.

I watch mostly sports---- FOOTBALL/NFL Shows  🏈 and my NBA Spurs 🏀.......

I also watch movies from the 40's on TCM (creative and interesting plots and good acting), a few shows on one of the Classic TV Channels, a few of the Hallmark Mysteries, and the Game Show Network.......

I find today's sitcoms boring and not funny, the "new" TV drama shows seem to be rehatched plots, and Im tired of all the "talent shows"....The shows on the streaming channels dont interest me.....So my TV viewing is a lot less than what it once was.
