In Albuquerque, I really miss Congress Deli.

I miss Frederick and Nelson, the once Grande Dame of Seattle, WA. The wonderful animated Christmas window that was a huge entertainment as a kid; the lovely white linen and silver tea room for Christmas lunch on shopping trips with my aunt or my friends; the fountain and lunch counter with the famous Frango Mint ice cream; floor after floor of various goods, including appliances. It was a true department store, which is a thing of the past since big box stores arrived. The building is still there, but it was taken over by Nordstrom. It's just not the same.

When I lived in NJ, I loved Franklin Simon.
In LA, I miss Bullocks Wilshire on Wilshire Blvd near Vermont Ave. It's been declared a landmark building for it's 1920's Art Deco architecture. It was out of my price range (except for sales) when I worked at an insurance company nearby, but I would have lunch there once or twice a month in their tea room and they were famous for their coconut cream pie. The department store was what you would see in those old movies from the 20's, 30's and 40's and I think it had 7 floors.

Also, I would give anything to have baked goods from Waldorf Bakery again!!
Do you remember the Jenkins Arcade across the street from Hornes? It was jammed with unique small stores. I had my wedding veil custom made in one of those stores on one of the upper levels. Bit of trivia - the Jenkins Arcade was the first indoor mall in the USA.I remember all those wonderful bakeries in Squirrel Hill. I'm sure I'm spelling it wrong but we used to get a pastry called a kickel. It was similar to an elephant ear and fabulous.
Yes, I remember Jenkins Arcade!!! Did you eat at the Colonade???
Nearly every day. I ate at the Colonade that was in the basement of the Union Trust Building. The other one was in Gateway Center, also in the basement.

Yes, the one is the Union Trust building, that's the one my mother and I ate at all the time when we were shopping in Kauffman's. What great memories! I thought the Colonade had the best food I had ever eaten (at the time)!

Bullock's was my favorite store until the 1994 earthquake just about demolished it. Broadway, May Company, Mervyn's, Sak's Fifth Avenue...all in Southern California.
It was such a pretty store too on the outside, that angular brick shape....(The Northridge location)
I loved Bullock's Wilshire too.....that is where my Mom bought her first Louis Vuitton in the late 70's....LOL

There used to be a lot of shoes stores in malls.
Baker's was one that I remember. Also for kids, Thom McAn and Stride Rite?
There were others, but I can't remember them now. I used to have a blast shopping for shoes back in the day!
