Hi MickD
I got a lot of clothes there for my daughter when she was little, too. Especially play clothes and tee shirts. Good sales, sturdy stuff.
Oh, and the holiday candles!

Mick ... they also made all their own cakes and pies ... for years I've been searching for a German chocolate cake that even comes close to theirs.

i really miss all the local bookstores that used to be around......and BORDERS.
i also miss the good old fashioned bakeries that would open early and close when they ran out of baked goods. the items were so fresh! we used to have so many and then slowly they were replaced by chains like panera and jasons deli AND the bakery sections of big grocery stores.

Sometimes you can find the recipes from old stores online.
The now gone Blums in San Francisco used to be famous for their coffee crunch cake. Long after the store disappeared, you could find the recipe online. Their baker had his own place and would recreate the cake for old customers.

SoX -
I don't know if this is the real thing, but here's a cake that claims to be from the Marshall Field's lost recipe for German chocolate cake:

Oh, Noel ... it surely looks like it! I'm going to send it to my daughter- in-law and have her make it for me ... she's an excellent chef.
Thanks so much!
