Re: What Do You Think of Belk?

@ECBG    I'm in a tiny town of roughly 15,000 people.  However, Belk is the only big nice department store for miles around and it serves many other small towns too.  I guess you'd have to drive at least one hour north or south in order to get to a Macy's or Dillards.  Maybe that's why they have so many various items.

I travel to Brentwood Tennessee all the time, it's just on the outskirts of Nashville about 2 miles.  There Belk is enormous!  Plus, there's a huge Belk outlet store.

When I'm at home, I've ordered online too though and picked up at the local store.  It just depends on what you're looking for sometimes.  They offer great coupon and reward point deals too.😃

I WISH we could have a Macys, we never have.  Our Soft Surroundings closed after Christmas; the company went bankrupt.

I had been in that store in the summer and it was drowning in polyester knee length caftans.  I've been in retail since retiring from teaching;  I knew that wouldn't sell.

Yes, I love going into Macy's too. The closest is south, in about an hour.  However, I'm used to the one in Lexington and it's a bit farther.  They always have nice things and the prices are very fair.

Re: What Do You Think of Belk?

I used to love the Belk that was nearest to my area; it was a high-end store with all designer brands; it closed after a year and moved to a smaller area about 20 miles away and it carries mostly their store brands and basic things. I ordered a lot of things on. their websit line DH as he likes Columbia shirts, high shipping,  but I would order enough to get it free.

About 6 months ago I made the mistake of ordering a dress from the Belk website and it had a small mention on the item that it was some "bargain" area. It was junk so I attempted to return it at the store; they said it had to be returned via shipping and they had no idea where to send it. I called coporate and they were totally disinterested. I think they gave me a $15 credit to make me go away. It was a $90 dress. I was too embarassed to even donate it; it was that terrible; so I threw it in the trash.

I will never shop there again. I loved their shoes and they have three price-points for their store brands and some are very good quality.

I've only ordered 2 things from Belk, once at least a year ago and shoes today.  So far happy with the service, they seem to have product available when it's hard to find elsewhere and prices are competitive.

What has been your experience?

Belk must be a regional chain, perhaps?  I live on the west coast and have never heard of it.  Any idea who the parent company is?

I have ordererd quite a few times from them and I have been extremely pleased!  I wish we had a local store.  They get some really good deals as well.

Re: What Do You Think of Belk?

Belk is the department store in our area that's been around forever. The quality has surely lowered through the years and our store is always dirty. It used to be where I shopped for Levi's jeans, they had many different styles. I now shop online mainly at Belk. I don't like to do that but the selection is much bigger than our store. I like their Kim Rogers brand for tees, the type shirt I mainly wear now. I can get a 95 cotton/5 span regular tee for under $15 and the quality is just as good as what QVC now offers for $60 and up.
