How about The Husband's Secret? Good story but left me kind of unsettled. Well worth reading. Would like to see it become a movie!

When I read The Husband's Secret, I thought it was thought provoking and worth reading. Now that I've read Big Little Lies, which I found to be a very shallow book about some very serious subjects, I'm rethinking my opinion of this author. She seems to write paint by the numbers books that skim the surface of anything controversial in order to be entertaining. Not that I have anything against shallow books (I read plenty of them), but I don't want them to pretend to be anything but frivolous. I'm probably not going to read any more of her books. She is immensely popular so she will not miss me, I'm sure.

Well, I'm still reading Middlemarch, and since I own it, I'm taking my time enjoying it. I can't believe I never read this book.

But now two other books became available so I've also started The Perfume Collector (Kathleen Tessaro) and The Man In The Queue (Josephine Tey). Both look really good.

Just finished Anne Rivers Siddons The Girls of August. It was a fast read at least and nothing to write home about.

Onto 12th of Never by James Patterson. I know this came out last year, but he's so popular I just found it. Wanted to read it before 13 of course which I saw at the library on the same day.

Just finished The Vacationers by Emma Straub. Loved this book about family and their vacation in Mallorca. It was worth waiting on hold at the library for a month or so. If you haven't read her first book, do so. It was just as good, if not better but totally different subject.

Onto Anne Rivers Siddons The Girls of August. Don't recall if I ever read a book by her before and if I did it was ages ago. This book reminds me of Nancy Thayer's books about friends.

Hi Sweet - I read The Vacationers a couple of months ago and really enjoyed it also - will have to check out her other books!

Here is a good one: Mean Streak by Sandra Brown. This is her new book published this month. It is great! The main character is injured while training for a marathon and rescued by a mystery man who will not disclose even his name. The mystery that follows brings nearly everyone into suspicion and hardly anyone is who they seem to be. I like smart characters and lots of action. This book is 5 stars.

I read Mean Streak too but didn't enjoy it as much - the whole plot line was implausible. I have read other books by her that I liked more.

SAgal: Am half way through The House We Grew Up In which is one of the most interesting books I have read in a very long time!! I have a friend who is so much like the main character so I can relate to the turmoil she goes through in trying to get rid of anything!! The characters are remarkably likeable and there are a twists and turns in this book I was NOT expecting!! I will for sure make Lisa Jewell my new favorite author and will read a lot more of her books but when I am done with this one, MUST finish Iron House by John Hart!

I'm glad you are enjoying it - it is really different isn't it?

SMOKY, I think THE SECRET PLACE is a stand alone book. TANA FRENCH is someone I look for. Love her books! LM

Thank you, Lilysmom. I've put it on hold at my library. I've never read anything by her.

I love books by Tana French - I just finished FAITHFUL PLACE - great book! I've also read the first two. It's on to BROKEN HARBOUR and THE SECRET PLACE! HIGHLY RECOMMEND all these books!

I just put this on my list. Looks like my type of book. Got a lot of great reviews. Let me know how you enjoy it.

Still reading The Vacationers and so far enjoying it.

Hi Sweet, I finished WE ARE NOT OURSELVES and I can't decide how much I liked it! It has gotten so much press, so many great reviews but I'm not sure. It certainly wasn't what I expected. I really thought it would be a saga and instead it was basically about a marriage and a son. A really intimate look but not really compelling. I think this is a book that will get lots of different reviews - some will love, some will hate and some will be like me - not really sure.

The Camp of the Saints, Jean Raspail.

I just finished Midwives.

What did you think about MIDWIVES? I thought it was a very different book than I normally read but I did enjoy it.

The Silkworm by Robert Galbraith aka J. K. Rowling

Loved the first book, Cuckoo's Calling. Both books about an interesting character who is a private detective. J.K. Rowling is a great writer.
