Re: What Are You Reading --- September 2014

I read the newest entries in three mystery series, and would rank them thusly: "THE BLOOD OF AN ENGLISHMAN" (Agatha Raisin series by M. C. Beaton) was good; "DEATH OF A DOG WHISPERER" (Melanie Travis Dog Show series by Laurien Berenson) was better; "FESTIVE IN DEATH" (Eve and Roarke series) was best.

I love Tana French! I just bought her new book and will be starting it tonight.

(She is one author I whose books I always buy in hardback--I don't want to wait!)

I loved her other books, but did not like this at all. I won't give up on her though.

The Camp of the Saints, Jean Raspail.

I just finished Midwives.

What did you think about MIDWIVES? I thought it was a very different book than I normally read but I did enjoy it.
I became a huge Chris Bohjalian fan after reading MIDWIVES. Very thought provoking; Jodi Picoult fans should love him as well. His latest does not disappoint!

I just put this on my list. Looks like my type of book. Got a lot of great reviews. Let me know how you enjoy it.

Still reading The Vacationers and so far enjoying it.

Hi Sweet, I finished WE ARE NOT OURSELVES and I can't decide how much I liked it! It has gotten so much press, so many great reviews but I'm not sure. It certainly wasn't what I expected. I really thought it would be a saga and instead it was basically about a marriage and a son. A really intimate look but not really compelling. I think this is a book that will get lots of different reviews - some will love, some will hate and some will be like me - not really sure.

SAgal, No wonder I've been on the fence about this book. I wanted to read it and then I didn't and then I decided to put it on my tbr list. I might give it a try and ptb if necessary. LOL. I really thought it was a saga and that's why I put it on my list.

Just finished The Vacationers by Emma Straub. Loved this book about family and their vacation in Mallorca. It was worth waiting on hold at the library for a month or so. If you haven't read her first book, do so. It was just as good, if not better but totally different subject.

Onto Anne Rivers Siddons The Girls of August. Don't recall if I ever read a book by her before and if I did it was ages ago. This book reminds me of Nancy Thayer's books about friends.

Hi Sweet - I read The Vacationers a couple of months ago and really enjoyed it also - will have to check out her other books!

Her first book I didn't read since it didn't interest me but her 2nd book Laura Lamont's Life In Pictures was wonderful.

Just finished IN THE LAKE OF THE WOODS - the author won several awards for this book and his previous one. Why? I don't know. Totally unstaifying read - a mystery left up in the air. Not worth your time.

I finished The Boys in the Boat by Daniel Brown a couple of days ago. It is about crew racing and the crew who won gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. It was a interesting book and I now know more about crew racing than I ever wanted to! Good author - kept you interested.

I just finished I Want to Hold Your Hand, book 2 in the Green Mountain Romance series by Marie Force. If you are fan of Robyn Carr, you should check out Force's e-books. Love 'em!

I also read Festive in Death, the latest J.D. Robb installment. It was a really good one. For me, this series keep getting better and my investment in the characters pays off. I just hate waiting for a new one, so I try to savor. That never works--

Next up, The Final Cut by Catherine Coulter and JT Ellison!
