Actually, Becky, I'm overdo in posting heartfelt thanks to SkyBlue, Linders Back and Judaline for urging me to stick it out with "Unbroken.".

I'm a third of the way through and utterly engrossed. Now I get why this book is one of the bestselling nonfiction books of all time.

It happened just like you said, Jud. I got to love Louie and then he entered the service and I was HOOKED! Thanks for the great advice. I am loving the book, loving him, and learning a lot about history that somehow was not taught to me in a meaningful way in high school or college.

I realize now I never even knew what happened at Pearl Harbor, or even where it is -- what else don't I know?

The book is amazing.

YEAH! Great news! Thanks for letting us know!

lori, good for you! I'm so happy you sometimes listen to me, hahahahaha. Seriously, it's a terrific book and what a guy was he!

I know you knew Pearl Harbor was in Hawaii. You just had a brain cramp or something.

Jud, I'm embarrassed to admit that I did not know. Haven't been there, must have been passing notes in school when they covered that. Sickening. I just told someone IRL who was floored.

Becky, do you remember how far you got the other times? What was happening when you PTB? Maybe we could help talk you passed that point?

Since I have tried three times my memory is foggy but I know he has been to the Olympics and is now in the war. I do not recall his being in any danger just yet. I will have to start at the beginning. The book was a gift and has been on my coffee table since the year it came out so it is never out of my sight with others to get to. Library and bought. I will give it another shot because I was impressed with his family life.

Re: What Are You Reading --- September 2014

lori, I can top that. A few years ago I was having lunch with some of my cousins, and they were talking about traveling (which should have been my first clue) when one cuz said, 'I saw Pearl Harbor.' I said, 'so did I!!' She said it made her cry and I said, 'me, too.' As I went back to my salad a thought hit me. I said, 'are you talking about the real Pearl Harbor?' and she said she was and I said, 'I was talking about the movie!!!' Man, am I dumb. I loved the movie with Ben Affleck because I love WWll shows and the fashions and hair do-s are so fun. Of course that isn't the gist of it, I know that, but you have to combine the bitter with the sweet-dunno anyone else who liked that movie.

becky, I don't see any reason to start over. Louie isn't a bad kid, but he likes to take things that don't belong to him, and he's a bit on the wild side and because he ran so fast from the cops a lot, someone suggested he train for the Olympics-don't remember much more than that about the early part of the book. So pick up where you left off-he's in the service and when he gets into extreme danger, you are right there with him in that life raft (which is an excerpt in the prelude to the book-first page-not a spoiler). From there on it's pretty can't putdownable.

It has been rainy at my house, so I decided to re-read a favorite: Rock Chick by Kristen Ashley. Now, I am reading the new JD Robb book, Festive in Death. It's definitely time for a Roarke fix!Wink
