Lovescats, thanks for the kind words. Maybe you were the helpful votes? I fully expect the Websleuths community to come out in force and mark my review of Hughes's book unhelpful. I can take it, LOL.

You've asked a tough question (you nailed it!) because Kolar's book explains how it could be possible that the person who Kolar is sure did it no longer or believes or even knows they did it.

Maybe I could believe the person no longer believes they did it but I think deep down they know they did it. Maybe it will come out someday because sometimes strange things happen. They might confide in the wrong person.

I could explain it more thoroughly but as it is, I'm perilously close to spoilers. I do recommend you read the book, maybe ask your library to get it, or maybe it's come out for Kindle since I read it? Don't know. But it's an amazing book. He lays out his case with great specificity, and new information never before published, so I could see why you'd be skeptical of what I'm saying.

Maybe spoilers

I thought you told me a while back that the son did it.

DEFINITELY SPOILERS

I did. It's just that he believes Burke Ramsey suffered from a particular rare psychiatic behavioral disorder that only affects children. I just took the book off my shelf so I can be specific: It is called Sexual Behavior Problems or SBP. Pages 367-389 of the book deal with this. It is entirely possible that Burke does not consciously know he did it. And there is much evidence to suggest he may have had this as his behaviors line up with other children that have had it.

To Lori Lori Spoiler Discussion

When you mentioned a book a while back and when I looked at it I saw something that talked about Burke and his behavioral problems but it didn't mention anything like SBP so that does add another dimension to it and I will look for the book. Thanks for letting me know because I used to watch all the time when Larry King had someone on discussing it.

PHANTOMS IN THE BRAIN by V.S Ramachandran, MD. Fascinating stuff. Makes neuroscience understandable and, yes, fun. There are even suggestions for DIY experiments. A good read for Oliver Sacks fans. The book was recommended to my daughter who suffers from phantom limb/pain occasionally. No magic bullet, but an in depth explanation of a very real condition and suggestions for further research.

My waiting room book* is David Sedaris' WHEN YOU ARE ENGULFED IN FLAMES. Warning: May cause audible giggles.

*I don't do electronics well, so I leave several "real books" in the car for emergencies.

I read this book a short time ago, and immediately went to the library to find some more books by her. Just finished Evil at Heart. Pretty good. I also finished Murder Artist by John Case. It was ok. Now I am reading books on autism because I am teaching two autistic students. Also am in line at the library for Flesh and Blood by Patricia Cornwell.

Re: What Are You Reading --- November 2014

Finished The Ape House by Sara Gruen and hated it. Just a mishmash of stupid characters (Russian hookers, green haired Vegans, stereotypical overachieving conniving woman, Woman with biological clock running and mid-life crisis, Unscrupulous Media Mogul/ POR N king, etc.) and ridiculous subplots. The titular apes were the most intelligent species in the story.

I so wanted to like this as I loved Water for Elephants and it made my "best book ever" list easily. Can't believe these were both written by the same author.
