Happy February everyone!

Today I finished reading Whistling Past the Graveyard, by Susan Crandall. I absolutely loved it and felt so sorry when it ended. This is definitely a five-star book that I'm sure is going to live in my mind for a long time. I loved everything about it, and it ended exactly the way I wanted it to. If you haven't read it, please do.

I also read The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd. I loved the first 3/4 or so of the book, but then it transitioned to becoming more factual, hence less entertaining. The two sisters, Sarah and Angelina Grimke, were based on real women who became abolitionists as well as suffragettes. I enjoyed their fictional characters much more than their real life personas. The transition was obvious to me as the reader, and the ending was factual rather than fictional.

It was too mixed up for me to enjoy. I don't think the author should have mixed up the facts and the fiction. Did anyone else feel this way?

I'm not sure what I'm going to start reading tonight. I think something light would be nice.

Have a great weekend and happy reading!

Sunny was happy you too loved Whistling Past the Graveyard which was suggested on this board by another reader whose name escapes me, but I loved it too!!! Smiley Happy

I loved WHISTLING PAST THE GRAVEYARD! I wish I was reading it now instead of my current read: UNDER THE WIDE AND STARRY SKY by Nancy Horan. It's about the life of author Robert Louis Stevenson and his wife, Fanny. It started out fine, but he was a very sick man. I have grown weary of all the talk of TB and blood. I can't comprehend how it garnered so many good reviews. It's hard to stay awake while I'm reading it!

Just finished THE MARTIAN, by ANDY WEIR. It's a fast reading book. Loved it. It's a suspenseful story about an astronaut that gets stranded by a huge sandstorm. He got injured & the rest of the crew thought he died. So they took off & left him behind. Well, he survived his injuries & has to find a way to live on Mars. It's like a diary about life on Mars. He goes through a lot of things just to survive. This should be a movie someday. To me, it reminded me of the movie Red Planet with Val Kilmer. If you're a fan of NASA you'll really enjoy this book. {#emotions_dlg.thumbup}

Finished Janet Evanovich's Takedown Twenty and again I was disappointed. Her last few books have been disappointments to me.

Going to read Kris Radish's Annie Freeman's Fabulous Traveling Funeral which I've had on my own shelf for a while.

Skyblue, I agree with you about the R.L. Stevenson book (by Nancy Horan). It could have used some editing to get rid of at least a hundred pages.

DJP, In case someone here has not read that book, please go back and edit your post to remove the ending or to add SPOILER. Thank you.

Linders Back, now that DJP removed her post as you requested, now you have to fix your post in which you quoted what DJP originally wrote lol

Thanks, Sunala, It has been done. Feel really dumb (and slapping myself upside the head) that that never occurred to me.

DJP, I'm sorry you deleted your whole post. Didn't mean to make you do that. I agree that Water for Elephants is a great book and am glad you also enjoyed it. It was one of my favorites. Just didn't want the ending spoiled for others.

Yes, a healthy edit would have helped! I'm glad I finished it, but it sure won't be a contender for the Best Books I've Read in 2014!

Great review! The book sounds really interesting. I just put a hold on it through my digital library.
