Re: What Are You Reading --- February 2014

Thanks for the welcome And the recommendation, Lilysmom. I just ordered WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN FROM THE LIBRARY. Did you know they also made the book into a film? I agree with you about first person storytelling pulling you in from the beginning. INSOMNIAC, whenever I read a new author (Gillian Flynn - GONE GIRL - in this case) I try to read other things they have written. If I enjoy a few of their books they go on my favored authors list. I really enjoyed Nancy Horan's UNDER THE WIDE AND STARRY SKIES and ordered LOVING FRANK yesterday. I have gotten many great recommendations lurking here and enjoyed them all.

USEDTOBE, yes, I saw the movie WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN. It was some time after I read the book. It was true to the storyline. LM

Usedtobe: If you aren't familiar with the personal life of Frank Lloyd Wright, DON'T GOOGLE IT before you read Loving Frank or it will totally ruin the book.

Re: What Are You Reading --- February 2014

Hi everyone, today I finished A Trick of Light by Karen Blomain, about a middle-aged traveling salesman who is married to two different women in two different states. The story is about the two women and their families. I loved it and did not put it down until I finished it.

I love the feeling of finishing a book and knowing I have so many selections to choose from. I believe I'm going to start Still Life with Breadcrumbs by Anna Quindlen, one of my favorite authors. It has very good reviews and I'm looking forward to getting in to it.

Welcome to Usedtobe. I hope you'll find your time here as enjoyable as the rest of us do. So many books, too little time!

Stay safe everyone; most of the south and the east coast is going to be affected by a nor'easter on Thursday. Stay warm and be careful if you have to go out. Better yet, stay home and read {#emotions_dlg.laugh}

Re: What Are You Reading --- February 2014

I read The Miracle At Speedy Motors, the 9th in the #1 Ladies Detective Agency series by Alexander McCall Smith, and thought this installment was absolutely the best in the series so far. I continue to be amazed at the versatility of this author. Because of that, I'm now reading La's Orchestra Saves The World. It seems this is a stand-alone novel, not part of any series, and set in 1939 England at the start of World War 2.

Read Q is for Quarry by Sue Grafton and then Summer in Mossy Creek by Deborah Smith.

Finished Lost Lake by Sarah Addison Allen. I was a little disappointed in this one. It had a little ""magic"" like her others.

Next book on this long weekend of mine is Takedown Twenty by Janet Evanovich.

I just read The Pilot's Wife (forget the author) Save Me by Lisa Scottoline. Both were pretty good.

Happy February everyone!

Today I finished reading Whistling Past the Graveyard, by Susan Crandall. I absolutely loved it and felt so sorry when it ended. This is definitely a five-star book that I'm sure is going to live in my mind for a long time. I loved everything about it, and it ended exactly the way I wanted it to. If you haven't read it, please do.

I also read The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd. I loved the first 3/4 or so of the book, but then it transitioned to becoming more factual, hence less entertaining. The two sisters, Sarah and Angelina Grimke, were based on real women who became abolitionists as well as suffragettes. I enjoyed their fictional characters much more than their real life personas. The transition was obvious to me as the reader, and the ending was factual rather than fictional.

It was too mixed up for me to enjoy. I don't think the author should have mixed up the facts and the fiction. Did anyone else feel this way?

I'm not sure what I'm going to start reading tonight. I think something light would be nice.

Have a great weekend and happy reading!

Sunny was happy you too loved Whistling Past the Graveyard which was suggested on this board by another reader whose name escapes me, but I loved it too!!! Smiley Happy
