Re: What Are You Reading --- February 2014

Just finished Shooting the Sun by Max Byrd: historical fiction with the emphasis on "Fiction". Interesting mystery adventure about a group of British scientists heading into the Southwest in 1840 to photograph a total eclipse of the sun. OR are they going for another reason? {#emotions_dlg.confused1} Quick read with good Descriptions of wagon train travel and of the prairies. Kinda makes me want to do a road trip.

Now I'm reading Tabloid City by a favorite author of mine, Pete Hamill. Murder mystery in NYC (present day) that centers on the police and journalists during the 24 hours following a "murder at a good address' (the kind that sells papers.

Just finished THE INVENTION OF WINGS by Sue Monk Kidd. I thought it was too long, and just OK. I recently read THE WEDDING GIFT by Marlen Suyapa Bodden and thought that it was sort of similar to THE INVENTION OF WINGS, but so much better. I also read River Road by Jayne Ann Krentz and liked it more than I thought I would (do not usually read those type of books).

Finished The Good Luck Girls of Shipwreck Lane by Kelly Harms. I thought it was going to be a silly book about 2 women w/the same name who win a house in Maine. It was cute and not silly at all.

Onto Adriana Trigiani's The Supreme Macaroni Club. Love her and this series.

Just discovered Adriana Trigiani a few weeks ago and I am on the last book of all hers that my library as on the shelf, "The Shoemaker's Wife." Read the Valentine series and Big Stone Gap and a couple of others. Thinking about buying her cookbook.

I loved Macaroni Club. Enjoy it. Try to read Lucia Lucia when you can.

Re: What Are You Reading --- February 2014

Finished Tabloid City by Pete Hamill in one day which is a record for me.

Plot: one day in NYC with a myriad of diverse city folks whose lives will intertwine around a double murder and the imminent demise of a daily newspaper. Found myself casting the parts using many of the cast of NEWSROOM. IF you like that show, you'll like the fast pace of this book.

Now on to Mrs. Poe by Lynn Cullen.

Hi Lainey and all. First time poster here, though I've enjoyed this forum for several years. I love to read and am lucky enough to be able to volunteer at our local library every week. I read everything and anything! I just finished STILL LIFE WITH BREADCRUMBS by Anna Quindlen. It's about a photographer who finds her N.Y. City lifestyle unsustainable, rents out her apartment to pay her parent's nursing home bills, and retreats to the country to try and find inspiration to reinvigorate her career and bank account. It's one of the better books I've read recently. Next up is the Robert M. Gate's memoir.
