What Are You Reading --- February 2014

This book thread is started on the first of each month.

Some suggestions for posting here:

~ underline, bold or CAPITALIZE the name of the book you're reading - it makes it easier for us readers to see what it is

~ include the author of the book - there are so many books with the same title (if you are recommending a book we want to make sure we read the right one)

~ post a few words about the book - would you recommend it {#emotions_dlg.thumbup1} or not {#emotions_dlg.thumbdown}

~ tell us the book genre - is it mystery, romance, historical, biography, etc.

***There is no obligation to do any of the above.Smile

As always, all posters are welcome here!

It's been a long, cold winter for most of us so I'm glad it's half way over! The good thing is I've been reading more because it's too cold to do anything else!

I just started Against The Mark by Kat Martin. This is a new author for me.

Happy reading all! lainey {#emotions_dlg.wub}

Last night, I started Lynn Austin's A Woman's Place. Takes place during WWII about four women who work at a factory, all from different backgrounds and become friends. I really like Austin's books. Wish I had discovered her sooner!

I started After Her by Joyce Maynard and managed to read six or seven chapters before I gave up on it. I found it boring and repetitive. But since I had read that much I decided to skim it to the end. I could have predicted how it would end.

Then I read Whistling Past the Graveyard by Susan Crandall. What a difference! The first person narrative feels so much more real in this story. This is a wonderful book that I highly recommend.

Yeah, I loved Whistling.

I just finished The Wind is Not a River by Brian Payton. Wow. I feel like I went thru it with him. A 'flyer' and I use the term loosely, and his plane go down in the Aleutians. It's WWll and the Japs are on the island. It's a story of survival and what a story it is, and alternately we read about his wife who joins the USO just to get to Alaska and then somehow the Aleutians. She knows a plane went down there and nobody knows anything so she's making it her business to find him herself. Engrossing and absorbing.

Am starting "The Confession" by John Grisham. Think he is my new favorite author that has been around for a long time that I am just now reading some of his many books! (Whistling Past the Graveyard is a super book and to those who have not yet read it, give it a try! Loved it too).

I've told friends about this book. They look at me, puzzling over the title Whistling Past the Graveyard. They don't get it but I got it-right away. Don't you all?

Finished The Good Luck Girls of Shipwreck Lane by Kelly Harms. I thought it was going to be a silly book about 2 women w/the same name who win a house in Maine. It was cute and not silly at all.

Onto Adriana Trigiani's The Supreme Macaroni Club. Love her and this series.

I loved The Racketeer, it was short but very witty and captivating with the twists and turns.........

What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty

I've been needing a light read. I just finished two heavy duty books in the last two weeks and my mind is numb!

I just finished The Woodcutter by Reginald Hill as a highly recommended book here. I enjoyed it very much.

I'm slow to the party and just starting at A is for Alibi.
