Re: What Are You Reading --- December 2014

I just finished Last Night at the Lobster by Stewart O'Nan. It's a tribute to those who work the shift that no one else wants and who work behind the scenes. A must-read for those who dine out frequently. It's a short book, only 146 pages. Now, I'm back to The Hearts of Horses.

I LOVE that book. It's a thing of beauty and IMO O'Nan's best. I don't like all of them. This one is very special, like a prose poem.

Re: What Are You Reading --- December 2014

Finished AJ Fikry, what a fantastic way to close the year, and a book I found thanks to this thread.

Started Past Imperfect by Julian Fellowes, creator, writer, executive producer of Downton and writer of the film "Gosford Park" on which Downton was based. I got it in a Brtisih edition which also includes his other novel, Snobs, which was just okay.

I am loving Past Imperfect.

I want to get this from the library. I read about it at the doctor's office.

Lola, THE GIRL ON THE TRAIN looks good. Here is the storyline...

A debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people's lives.

Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. “Jess and Jason,” she calls them. Their life—as she sees it—is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

And then she sees something shocking. It’s only a minute until the train moves on, but it’s enough. Now everything’s changed. Unable to keep it to herself, Rachel offers what she knows to the police, and becomes inextricably entwined in what happens next, as well as in the lives of everyone involved. Has she done more harm than good?

A compulsively readable, emotionally immersive, Hitchcockian thriller that draws comparisons to Gone Girl, The Silent Wife, or Before I Go to Sleep, this is an electrifying debut embraced by readers across markets and categories.

Lilysmom, thanks for posting the description (The Girl on The Train). I was going to try and get it from my library but it doesn't come out until Jan 13th. It sounds really good.

Happy New Year everyone!
