I remember that day too. I was on federal jury duty downtown and we watched the coverage in the jury lounge. Little did we know it was just the beginning of a horrible trend.

Thank you for posting this thoughtful remembrance.  We live about 6 miles from the school and we had moved here from SF 9 months before the shooting with our then 2 year old.

 

Like everyone else we were in shock and being newcomers we thought what kind of mistake have we made especially with a young one that would eventually be part of that school system.

 

Unfortunately after time it wasnt just our area however it never goes away knowing it was the start of a horrific trend.

Not really the beginning...The Paducah, KY school shootings were in 1997.

 

Sadly, there is an entire long page of school shootings that were before 2000, dating back to 1840.
