You were lucky!  I was envious reading your post.  We have no mom and pop places left around here.  One by one they went out of business and this was before covid.  All the chains came in and ran them out of business.  These small, family run places, were around a long time and these people took pride in what they did and the product they put out.  They made you feel special and appreicated when you came in.  They acknowledged you, treated you with respect and gave you the best meal, for the best price.  Dining there was an event and you felt like you got the best dining experience for your dollars.  Your dinner sounded lovely.  It made me remember the old days and many happy experiences DH and I used to have.

We live in a small town. All of our eating establishments and delis are family owned. I can't say they are 'Mom and Pop' places, they are a little more than that. We have one chain pizza place in town, otherwise, you need to go out of town along the highway for some chain places, but not all that many.
