Re: Well, I’ll be darned- Wegman’s

I was excited when Wegmans first came to our area.  I thought grocery shopping would be exciting but instead it was overwhelming.  The novelty wore off quickly. I cannot remember the last time I went to Wegmans.  I'll stick with my tried and true Shop Rite.

Love Wegman's!

They are coming to Westchester County, NY, this spring.  When I lived in NY, I would drive to the new one in Montvale, NJ.

On my way back to DE on Sunday, I did stop at the Montvale store to stock up ($180 later!).  Where I live now, the supermarkets are yucky.  Woman Tongue

Re: Well, I’ll be darned- Wegman’s

Being in their home city, I've loved Wegmans since we were dragged there by Mom. And I still love Wegmans all day long. But, just as back then, you need to know how to shop.

And, with 17 Wegmans here lol, I do know how to shop--there, and elsewhere. They do tend to push their own brands, having eliminated carrying some popular national brands. That's why I love having choices close by.

And just as an aside, those anticipating their first Wegmans, might want to take note of something: Wegmans does NOT use an apostrophe--ever. Not even for possession. It's "Wegmans spokesperson," "Wegmans products," "Wegmans locations," etc.

Respect the brand!

Re: Well, I’ll be darned- Wegman’s

Wegmans is a great store.  I have to agree with some of the posters.  They have a lot of their own brands rather than name brands.  The quality is good, but you can definitely tell the difference with some of them.

Maybe it's because they've been here for so long (Buffalo area) its not that big of a deal.  I do not buy their meat as it is pre-packed (vacuum packed), they do have a fresh meat counter though but it's usually just steaks and roasts.  Deli meats are good, but can get them cheaper elsewhere. Produce for me has been hit or miss.  Bakery department is awesome, but be prepared for sticker shock.  I always have family over for dinner a few times a month and would always purchase dessert at Wegmans.  When the cakes went up to $20.00 and $15.00 for a pie, except apple pies on sale for $6.00 I stopped buying the desserts there.   A boxed cake mix at $.99 is just as good.

Customer service there is good.  The self check outs are now credit cards only.  They also have instacart service there.

Re: Well, I’ll be darned- Wegman’s

I am about 20 minutes from Wegsmans.  They have the freshest seafood and their own brand of canned corn and green beans is the best over any other name brand and only .50.  Potatoes are $1.99 for a five lb bag.

Sometimes other fresh  fruits and veggies are a bargain.  Everything is fresh and the store is clean, but for the most part, they are expensive.

They are good store to shop in when you need something different, and not available in your regular grocery store. Their international food section is massive.

it's a fun store to shop in if you have a ton of money to spare.

And then there is a complete florist shop - beautiful arrangements which can be had for that 'forgotten anniversay'  that needs a quick acknowledgement = or else!

I just picked up a plant to brighten my table during this Nov glum.

Dozen roses? - no problem - Wegmans probably has it.

@fthunt I've done some damage in their floral department for sure. Like I've died and gone to heaven! Their prepared foods are also excellent.

I LOVE Wegmans!  My favorite store ever!  The closest to me is about a 45 minute drive.  and the other a little over an hour but soooooo worth it.  Everything is of good quality and the bakery section, OMG.  I also agree about their flowers that another poster wrote.  Excellent variety and quality.  I purchased  Fall mums several weeks ago and they still look good!  So excited for you.  It truly is a great store.
