@Johnnyeager wrote:I am one of those who would re-use every single plastic grocery bag I received, defying the faulty term "single use." Like others, I would line trash cans and use them for garbage disposal.
Now, I purchase a variety of different plastic bags which are used once. I never did that before.
My "plastic footprint " has expanded and I consume more plastic than I did when receiving the grocery store bags.
Exactly @Johnnyeager
I still use about the same amount, but now I gotta pay for them! SMH
Just what does NY think I am gonna put dog doo in?? A paper bag?
We only did that back in the 70's, on a porch....well, you know that prank!
Hee, I never really did it....but certain items can not be disposed of in paper.
What about all our hefty garbage and kitchen trash bags? Aluminum foil? etc

Oh gosh @Snoopp
you pay a buck for the old fashioned paper bags? That's awful.
I would just dump it all in my purse then!
Every where around here they are only a nickel. Wegman's is the only store I know of that is donating the proceeds though.
I have been to places where all they have is plastic coated tote type bags.
Those are 49c to a buck....but foldable paper are all a nickel.

They do make potty bags that are biodegradeable. That's what I was using when I had my Rupert. ![]()

Paying for bags has been standard in the UK for at least 25-30 years. It's just a small fee, but probably goes to waste disposal. We're in terrible trouble right now with climate issues.... I use my work satchels and spare cloth items for shopping.
My publix still gives out free bags, and I am back to using them for garbage disposal in my trash right now.
I have had a plague of rats this summer (flippers displaced the rats in an abandoned house nearby when they did a reno). So for a while I am once again using their plastic bags just for garbage. We're working on the rat problem, but they have dismantled my dishwasher, garbage disposal, and (the one appliance I really like) my Maytag Centennial washer, best I've ever had but it's had a nervous breakdown when it had to be moved to get to holes that needed to be covered with wire mesh.

We have not been able to use plastic bags in NYC for supermarket purchases in ages. However, the restaurant industry for take out is a little different. Take out food at many establishments now are using something that looks like plastic for your food, but not quite plastic! No, I don't want to know what it is either, LOL.

I live in AZ so plastic bags are still readily available but of such inferior quality. We bought 12 foldable grocery bags from A and we use them most of the time, particularly in Walmart where most lanes are self check. The inferior plastic bags they provide actually slow us down with bagging. Our bags are also easier to carry several in one trip into the house with no fear of handles breaking.
