This was my mom's weekly ritual as well, followed by toilet paper, pink hair tape, clips, and a satin bonnet nightly to maintain it.

When I was to graduate, she set up an appointment for me.  When I left I looked like I had an appointment with Truvy and was a country music maven.  I hated it and wouldn't be caught dead arriving at my ceremony looking like that!  I brushed it all out, washed it, and redid it myself.

My Mom in her later working years had a standing appointment early afternoon on Saturday.  I think it was not only about getting her hair done, but having a gab feast with her beautician and the other ladies who usually had the same appointments.  I remember my Mom sleeping with toilet tissue wrapped around her head and clips to hold it on!  In the mornings she would using her teasing comb to fluff it out and apply a bit of fresh spray!

@shoesnbags  In the 60s, I went to bed with big brush rollers in my hair. That was so uncomfortably and prickly. We suffered to be beautiful.

I got the "Bubble", in 9th grade.

Two years later, I got the "Artichoke".

At that age, I loved going to get my hair done,

                        especially in the latest style.

@Happy2BHere   Along with the brush rollers, I used Dippity Do for years.

The good old days. The higher the hair....the closer to heaven. Another one was our full skirts with the crinoline net slip under it. We washed that slip every night and dipped it in clear gelatin water bath and hung it to dry in the bathroom so it was ready for morning. Boy that was itchy close to our skin, lol. Then we put on our white buck shoes and grabbed out little sachet bag with the white powder that we put on our shoe every time it got a dirty spot. Off the school we went.

Dare I even mention this.......

A few months ago I ran across a package of foam rollers!

I've been occasionally using them overnight.

Several good compliments re: my curls.
