We have had a lot of mistakes or odd wedding invitations over the years.  Some people are just plain weird. Don't worry about it, no one has to accept any invitation or send a gift.

Just read your UPDATE.....what a tacky couple....having a college degree....doesn't always mean people are "educated".....

Lucky for you that you sent your regrets...not even knowing the reason you were invited....sometimes things work out...

Take the money you would have spent on the wedding and do something special with your husband...

Moms and Grandmoms:  Always teach the youngsters to be polite.  Saying/writing Thank You will be handy later on in life.  The Thank You people will be appreciated by the people who appreciate those who are genuinely polite.  'Goes a long way' by possibly very important people, in other words.

oh my, how tacky.  You were invited because you could afford a nice gift??  geeze.  To me personally, the wedding invites are to share the joy of the day, not about the gifts.  Glad to hear you sent your regrets, and hopefully without a gift!

Leaving the husband off the invite was more than likely just an error.

OP---The reasons "why" you were invited sounds like your uncle's opinion and therefore, hearsay.  It's probably good that you declinced, since it doesn't sound like you wanted to go anyway, or that you even like these people.
