@rms1954 As long as what you wear is OK with your daughter, wear whatever you want!

As to the time of year, I've seen beautiful chiffon or georgette flowy dresses (some have a print, some are solid) that would be fine for summer. I wore black flowy pants and a black chiffon top that had a small print to my niece's beach wedding some years ago...I fit right in as there were all sorts of colors. The MOB wore a gorgeous floaty, sleeveless, bronze color dress. I was also way more comfortable in those pants, because it was so windy that the ladies in dresses spent a great deal of time holding their skirts in place!

Re: Wedding MOB Question

[ Edited ]

Check with the bride yes !!!   My MIL wore dark blue to our wedding with out consulting me....we married morning in summer and my mother wore very pale pink and my attendents wore lavendar.....what MIL wore was more suited to an after five wedding.....I was angry that she didn't ask my mother as MOB what she was wearing bc my mother would have let her choose first.

When is the wedding (season)?  What time of day is the wedding? What type of venue have they chosen.

All of these factors affect the decision.

just remembered:

we went to wedding in Feb and the MOB wore a gorgeous black gown, very understated as in no glitter and beads.

she looked fantastic!!!

like a said:  black is so chic.

for all those that said, "i never would", i wonder if u think its for a funeral?

if its a 'party dress', then it will or should never give off funeral garb vibes.

there is a huge difference in the two

I have "heard" (oh the wedding lore and superstitions !!) that its unlucky for MOG or MOB to wear black to the wedding bc it means they disapprove of the match........am remembering DH's aunt wore black as MOB bc the dress shop burned down with her kelly green dress in it, all she could get that fit was a black dress.....the couple in question are married about 30 years with three kids and a grandchild

Why don't you talk to your daughter, the bride?
