My mom still goes shopping in grocery stores. Anyone who gets near her without a mask on could kill her. So...I'm always going to say they should be wearing a mask. I don't want to lose my mom.
@Porcelain, plus, the whole carbon dioxide issue is not factual.
Heck, I hate wearing a mask. So what?
If someone has a legit reason verified by a doctor, then that's another thing. But honestly, I would think if someone has such a serious lung issue, they should not be out and about anyway.

Not one person on this post said they were against people wearing masks. Not one! I think some of us are just not interested in being the mask police. If your mom is so vulnerable she should stay home like everyone else who is concerned or has issues. I do.

I think we'd both have an easier time convincing the maskless dude to mask up on the way into a store than getting my mom to do anything that wasn't her idea to begin with. She's just not going to give up supporting her favorite shops and getting her Sunday paper.
Ordering her to change her ways in order to accomodate people who don't like masks, out of choice, is just not going to work. Same with my dad. These are stubborn people who have earned the right to live the way they like and I don't think they deserve to die because of it.

I wish people could just buck up and either wear the mask (properly) or don't go out among people.
I had as much of an aversion to wearing a mask as anybody. I have severe asthma. I have anxiety. Years ago I was given a mask to wear when I was painting (or something - can't totally recall) and I rejected it because I felt like I couldn't breathe and it was just anxiety-inducing.
Then this happened. This is much more important because it's not just about me. So, I learned to calm down and get my head together and wear the freaking mask when I'm out and about or if somebody comes into my house. You just do it and stop being so delicate. As much as my asthma is severe, it's not affected by wearing a mask. It was just a head thing that I had convinced myself I could't breathe with it on. It was silly and I knew that I had to get over it.
Some of the stuff I saw here just isn't true but some have convinced themselves of something that's patently false. That is terribly unfortunate.
Sometimes we just either act as a part of a society, or stay hidden out and accept that if you are that delicate maybe being around people is a bad idea.
It took me a bit but I bit the bullet and just got myself in the right mindset and got comfortable with the mask thing. If I could do it, despite the challenges and my silly mindset, then pretty much anybody can.
I guess, in retrospect, some of my horrible childhood has served me well because I had to learn from a very young age to get over things and carry on. I believe in doing the right thing and even if it makes me uncomfortable, it's still the right thing. I never had the luxury of being delicate.
