~~ Wearing Perfume on Airplanes ~~

My dh and I recently flew back east and a lady walked past us as we were waiting to board and her perfume almost knocked me over. I smelled her before I saw her. Admittedly, I am overly sensitive to fragrances, but all I could think was "please don't have a seat near me". I would implore people (men and women) to wait until you get to your destination prior to bathing in your fragrance. It's the considerate thing to do, IMO.

Having asthma, I'm also very scent-sensitive. Man, sometimes when I go into the grocery store somebody will almost knock me over with some super strong, offensive to me, 'fragrance'.

But, realistically speaking (and I'm sure you'll take your knocks here), nothing will ever change about that. Most people who wear half a bottle of some cheap-smelling cologne will tell you that their right to do that overrides your right to breathe. Smiley Happy

twopeas, that's great advice! If I know I'm going to be really close to people, like the dentist or doctors- close quarters, I wear a lightly scented bath powder- my Chanel#5 is very light and not over whelming. I don't know why some woman feel they have to literally bathe in a heavy smelling scent. Generally around the house I'll spray myself but only minimally..

My company has a policy of no scents in our offices. Chemical sensitivity is a real issue.

One of our government buildings here has also banned it.

I get physically ill from it.

People who wear fragrance can't smell it on themselves, hence they over apply.

I find men, particularly European men, bathe in cologne.

Overseas flights can be killers as many passengers pass the time in Duty Free Shops and sample everything.

I also have asthma and have had some difficult times in closed in spaces with perfumes. The worst can be an elevator, esp if it stops frequently and you are in there a long time. Even if the person wearing it got off the smell lingers. It is just as bad a body odors.

I agree. I am not sensitive to fragrances, but there are some that are just so strong or overpowering that I get nauseated. I truly feel many people don't realize or can't smell how much they apply.

When I did mammography, some of those women had so much perfume on you could taste it. That sunflower scent is the most horrible awful! Back then it was very popular.

I try to think about my destination when applying fragrance. There are very few I can tolerate myself and I am sensitive to others.

Funny story. I think anyway.

When I was in early 20's I worked in a little cubicle type area with 2 other women. I came back from lunch and said "oh yuck! Did they spray for bugs?" And "wow, that really stinks what is that?"

The other lady said "is it this ?" and held out her arm. Yup. Her perfume.{#emotions_dlg.blush}
