Water, water everywhere and not a drop to drink

[ Edited ]

At 2:00 A.M., DH went to flush and OMG, couldn't. I yelled try the faucet. Nothing. DH runs outside and was checking at the water turn off and the thing just crumbled in his hand. All the while, I'm yelling as he runs back and forth and all around like a chicken with its head cut off. I'm yelling, there's probably a water main break and I'm going to call the city. He can't hear me because he's outside running into both our neighbors' yards to turn on their hose faucets to see if their water is off. While he's doing this I am finding the city's after hours utility emergency number. I find the number and call it. A recorded message says that there's a water main break very close to us.  My husband comes inside and tells me the neighbors' water is off too and I redial the number so he can hear there's a water main break. After hearing the news, he calls the number back to speak with a human. The human tells my husband they are working on this right now. She says she doesn't know when they will finish.

After the water comes back on we'll have to get a new water valve. He calls it a gate valve.

There's always something.

At 2am I would just go back to bed and deal with it in the morning.

I, not too long ago also woke up to no water.

I didn't panic and freak out by running around breaking in to neighbors yards seeing if they had water or not.

I could hear them working on the pipe.

I would've just gone back to bed, instead of running around freaking out.

Talk about over reacting.

Why all the yelling?  And he went yard to yard in the middle of the night, turning on hoses?

In any case, I hope it's fixed soon.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

This was all at 2am - running around and yelling?  They were working on it.  Things happen sometimes.  Why would he run into the neighbors' yards?

Strange...

I can't imagine someone coming to my yard to check if my water is running in the water hose - especially at 2 am.

@San Antonio Gal

Especially if they woke me up when they did it.
