We have so many the DNR has come in to reduce the deer population. Some people had a fit ,but they are posing a threat to humans. We have heaps of green belts in our area, and the deer population has exploded
Our's aren't afraid of humans , either. They wander into neighborhoods and munch the plants
We had an awful encounter with a buck ,with a full rack ,of antlers, He was beautiful ,but too close for comfort
He came tearing out of a thicket , behind a housing development, smack in front of us.
He literally flew over our car ,with his hooves curled beneath him, just like Rudolf
I held my breath, and hoped for the best . We weren't speeding ,and the guy behind us wasn't either ,so we didn't get hit in the rear end ,or the front end , by the deer

It is scary to hit a deer. Of course your son was shaken up. A deer hit me - walked into the car when I was just starting to accelerate from a red light. I must have been going 15 mph at 8 am and the deer just casually strolled into my right front fender and then ran off, leaving a dented fender full of bristly deer hair.
I was told if you had a choice between hitting the deer and swerving, to always hit the deer.

So sorry to hear this happened but thank goodness your son is alright! I live in NJ and worry about hitting a deer whenever I go to my son's house in Mt. Laurel. I babysit my granddaughter two days a week and use Interstate 195 and 295 to get there. Last week, in one day, I counted 19 dead deer, 2 red foxes, 1 squirrel and 1 raccoon all on the way to his house and all on these two roads. It's just awful for the animals, as well as the people!![]()

Right! I live in southeastern Oklahoma. Deer are quite thick in this part of the country. Thank the heavens neither myself nor anyone in my immediate family have had a deer encounter while driving. It most definitely is on my mind this time of year especially.

on a weekend in the mountains, I went out one night to get takeout about 8:30. Had just started up a slight hill going about 40mph when from the left rear came a large deer on a diagonal. He hit the front driver bumper and kept running at an angle.
Shaken, I tested the brakes and started forward: everything seemed fine. Got to the restaurant 10 minutes later and thought " boy, was I lucky: everything is okay..... In the bright light of the parking lot I saw the pulled out bumper frame and the damaged headlight.
That headlight replacement cost was 4-digits! Thank goodness for insurance.
i remember hearing that if a deer can hit your windshield, put your arm up to your neck and head area to protect your self from death if they were to gash an artery ( or blind you ).
Be safe.

We have elk here. You don't ever want to hit one of those on the highway.

It is so sad and upsetting to me that all these animals are losing their homes because of more and more unneeded (IMO) development.
I live in a city, in a development on a dead end street. Up until probably 7 years ago, at the end of our dead end street was all woods. That was torn down to put up a shopping center. Now, we have all kind of wildlife in our neighborhood.
I've had deer in my backyard, I've seen them roaming up the middle of my dead end street, they've been in the Home Depot and Walmart parking lots, etc. There is just nowhere for them to go anymore and it's sad.
Monday as I drove to work, I came down a hill and around a bend. There are woods on both sides and it's really beautiful in that short area especially with the changing leaves or when there is snow. But as I came around, a deer ran right in front of my car. Luckily I was able to stop.

Deer are really bad here in Delaware. Just down the road from my development, deer have been running the main road all year this year. usually they let the main road alone during summer, not this month. it was zig zag down main road because of the deer just jumping out in front of you. my husband runs into them ever day and night going to work. bad this year.
neighbor went deer hunting yesterday (shotgun) he got 2 huge deer a 5 pointer and I guess the mrs.

We have certain areas along the highway that are known deer crossing or there are warning signs posted. I always slow down when I see one and am driving at night.
Can you imagine. There was an incident in my area where a guy hit a deer and an antler came through his windshield, went through him and killed him.
We had a friend who was very seriously injured when he was hit by a deer while riding his motorcycle.
