I'm always polite. I tell them right off the bat so they don't waste their time and mine and say something like I'm really not interested so I wish you luck with the next call and please take me off the list, have a nice day. My friend is just plain nasty and I don't get it.

They don't need to hear my voice so I don't answer - they don't leave anything on the answering service either. My husband will answer and ask them to take our number off their list. Sometimes they have a number to push if you don't want any more of their calls.
