@phoenixbrd Christopher & Banks does offer 90 day return. I know Macy's and Penney's used to, but not sure about now.

I don't mind using the self checkouts. You can bag your groceries the way that
you like. You can see each item ring up and take your time doing so. I never
rush. If there is a problem I am not afraid to holler for help.

Has anyone noticed lower prices at all these retail venues that have jumped the self-checkout shark? No, I didn't think so. Just more profit for them and a few less jobs on offer. I don't care for them and only use them if I feel I have to. Seems like many of them end up requiring the intervention of a staff person, who has to be paid to stand nearby. Why not just put them at a register? Naw, that would make too much sense. Is this what they mean by 'progress' and better customer service?

If you return things that have been marked down on clearance, they will only give you the clearance price, not what you paid for it, so they don't lose money, you do. Target returns have a limit before you are put on a black list...and you can't return anything.DD is on it because she buys every size of a t shirt then takes back the ones she doesn't like. Sheesh!

I don't go into stores anymore, I order online & pickup....I save money & time.

I use the self-checkout line most of the time when I am in Wal-Mart because the checkout lines are so long and slow. When was in those long lines I always thought that my ice cream was melting.

I could not agree more. I don't mind self check out sometimes but good grief don't take cashiers jobs. Sometimes I do not feel like scanning my own stuff. On top of that they are people who have a basket full of groceries at the self check and there of long lines. Sometimes they only have one cashier!!!!! Raleys here is a little more expensive however if I just want a couple of things I will go there, they have self check out and cashiers. Never long lines.![]()

I refused to do self-checkout at WM initially because I figured it was stealing jobs.
However, it seemed like there was never anyone to checkout anyway, so I started using it.
The only advantage to it is that you can pack your own items the way you want, and hopefully you don't get home MISSING items (which has happened several times when a checker checks me out.)
I feel sorry for all the people who work there because they have to put up with a lot. Most of the workers at WM didn't seem to feel that the self-checkouts were stealing their jobs - (I know because I would mention it when they checked me out).
In our local WM, there are people who've worked there 20 or 25 YEARS.......................

But at Walmart there are always long lines, and only one or two manned cashiers and long lines at self check...and it never fails at self check---something wont scan and waiting for someone to help takes a long time....At Target lots of manned cashiers but long lines at both manned and self check...the Target does a booming business...
@Spurt my friend, I couldn't agree more. When I first moved here, even though it wasn't a huge move geographically it still took me a bit to get the lay of the land. The first place I found was a huge WM which I didn't have by my previous address. I was so pleased when I first started shopping there and couldn't understand the criticism I had heard. Fast forward a couple of months . . . oh now I get it. Whether you were in self serve (a disaster) or getting in line (better bring your own chair) I quickly located the Target's around here and now all is well. Lots of check out options and always pleasant people around to assist if you need help.

Walmart in our town has taken out 4 registers. Seems they are encouraging customers to use the self check outs. I have been lately since I dislike standing in long lines.
Also did they always have a 90 day return policy on clothing? If they did, I guess I always returned things sooner since I didnt realize this. Tried to return today and it was past 90 days.
I haven’t noticed any changes in the number of registers at my local WM. Unless they start offering a discount for using the self checkouts, I won’t be using them.
