According to my local paper, Walmart will be cutting 600 jobs from their Bethlehem, Pa. distribution center due to reduction or elimination of evening and weekend shifts. This will take effect June 2. Other locations also impacted.

Their online shopping for groceries and other items have been extra great the last year or so, I hope that doesn't change.

The pickup and delivery business at Walmart has been quite busy here.  I would suspect they are putting more emphasis on that now, hence not so much on restocking over night maybe.

This is the distribution center, not the stores.  It says 600 jobs, but doesn't mention how many people are impacted.  It's unlikley they were fully staffed.  In which case, part of the 600 jobs elminated weren't filled anyway.  According to what I read, many of the impacted people will be relocated other locations.  Severance and job placement services are being offered.

This news comes as a surprise since many people buy from Walmart which would have come from a distribution center.

There are many items I buy that get delivered from the stores the next day. I would miss that.

I do as well.  They don't carry the big bottle of Cheer with color guard on the shelves.  I have to order that and big bottles of Woolite Dark wash.

Yes I meant the distribution centers. I buy tons of cat food/litter that doesn't come from the grocery stores. I also buy lots of clothes that come the same way and next day.

As it gets harder to get people to work not, jobs get automated too.  That possibly is a big factor.

And for every die hard shopper here there are 10 more that have reduced their budgets to necessities only.
