My local WalMart recently started this service. They have ads in the store and a special area in front of the store for pickups. I usually get more than groceries when I am there so I'm not sure if it would work for me.
I'm looking forward to hearing how things went!

I don't understand the waiting in your car for pick up. You still have to leave your house and go to Walmart. I guess someone else could pick them up for you, and you can check to see if you got everything.

@missy1 If you find something wrong with your order after you get home, you just call and they'll fix it.
You drive to the store at the time you choose, park in the designated area, then call to tell them you've arrived. They bring your groceries right out and put them in your car and off you go.

Our local Giant Store as well as Walmart has this service. I have never used it but I am trying to talk a family member into trying it.
she is the elderly person who fell, broke her hip and lived with me for 9 months until she was well enough to go to her home. She makes lists and I go to the store for her, but about once a month, she talks me into taking her so she can shop. Her mind isn't all that great and it is very trying for me. She wants to buy things she doesn't need ( I have to put things back when she isn't looking) and she runs out of money and I usually end up paying out $50 or so each time.
i took her last week and spent three hours in the store with her. I had my granddaughter with me and she missed lunch. I had to buy GD lunch at the store and she ate it in their cafe area. Then when i took family member home, I carried all of those groceries in and put them away for her. She was exhausted and in pain from being on her feet for so long, It was after 6 pm when I got home.
Please let me know how on line shopping went. It sounds appealing to me as I would rather not spend three hours in the grocery store.

In South Florida we have "Instacart". There are several store choices from Publix, (Costco, Whole Foods, and two wine/liquor stores. Your order is delivered to your door within 2 hours and can track the whole thing online. There is a service charge, and tip which is optional of course. I do. I think it's great if you aren't feeling well and need something ASAP. It has it's place. Have used it several times..5 stars!

@Carmie The Walmart service would be perfect in your situation. You could pick up her grocery order for her and screen it as you enter it in your computer. It has a memory where it keeps previous orders and favorite items so it would be easy to whip out a grocery list based on previous things she's ordered.

I picked up the groceries after work, I was out anyway.
Leaving my house would not be a big deal if I don't have to traipse all over the store.

When I was a kid, my mom would call the mom & pop grocery store on Saturday morning, read off her order, and a delivery boy would bring it over before noon.
That said, a girlfriend of mine and I were just talking about this the other day and I might have to give it a try. My only issue would be with fresh produce, if the the order picker will be discriminating or just pull whatever without really bothering to inspect for bruises, spoilage, etc. My friend said she was inside a local Walmart recently and in talking with an associate there was told that about 40%, or so, of their grocery purchases are online. I actually used to enjoy grocery shopping but nowadays it's become a chore to get done.

My experiment worked very well. I only ordered about $40 worth, as a trial run so it didn't take long. 2 WM employees were loading up a car when I pulled in and one of them had gotten my alert and came right over to my car and told me she'd be right out with my order, leaving the other employee to finish with the first customer. She got 14 totes full of groceries! My order came out in 4 totes.
There was no pick up charge, only tax added, of course. A couple of friends who use a different WM said the times they ordered, they couldn't schedule their pick up until the next day. When I finished my order online, I was offered several different pick up times for today, so I chose the one after work. I live in a larger metro area, that could be the difference.
Going forward, I can probably use the service to pick up cat food, water, certain staples or pantry items & condiments I seem to buy often.
I do like the idea of delivery, but since I still work every day, this is a good substitute. As long as I can drive, I don't mind leaving the house if I don't have to get out of my car. It's the shopping & standing in line that wears me out. Driving, not so much.
I'm only 4 miles from WM, some clever Uber-style driver should set up his own delivery service!

I haven't used a service like this yet, as I really love grocery shopping.
But I'm so glad it is available from so many places now. There are so many people who will find this service not only convenient, but many more that will find it necessary at some points in their lives.
@software Hope all goes well with your first order, and I too, hope your health issues are soon a thing of the past, and that even if you never want to grocery shop for yourself again, you are feeling able to do so!
