Re: 😎 Walgreen Closings: What I found out (sort of) 😎

@Mz iMac  Nearby where I live there were in fact a Walgeens and a Rite Aid across the street from each other but it was the Rite Aid that closed. I think the decision is being made case by case and possibly includes factors such as store size, which of the two buildings is newer, positioned better, has better parking and so on. In this instance, they were both nice stores, but the Walgreens was the newer and larger building and the parking lot is in much better shape. The now closed Rite Aid has been for lease now for months.

@stevieb

My Rite Aide was newer, yet closed, and the older Walgreens across the street stayed open. Both stores seemed to do decent business. Much preferred Rite Aide - still miss it. Building still empty a year later.

@wilma  Could be they're intent on mostly trying to preserve their own stores, rather than move... There is another Rite Aid in my area not near any other pharmacy and it's being converted to a Walgreens in stages. First, they took over the pharmacy operation and now it's my understanding the entire store will become a Walgrens. I had understood that Walgrens was not buying the entire chain but only some stores. As of now, however, it looks like Rite Aid in my area will be gone.

Here we have a lot of CVS stores (which are packed day and night), only 2 Walgreens and no Rite Aid stores.  The CVS used to be Eckerd.

There is a Rite Aide that is not being taken over by Walgreens about 10 miles from my house. Never really in that part of town. Trying to get used to Walgreens, but I can buy some drug store items cheaper at Target, Meijer, or WalMart.

Over the summer Walgreens just took over a RiteAid here in RI.  CVS is not far away, they are SO expensive so I am glad we did not lose a more affordable option,

In my town in WV, we still have Rite Aid, but the pharmacy has been changed to WalGreens, Don't know what that means.

We have 3 Walgreens and 3 Rite Aids in my area.

I shop at both Walgreens and CVS, depending on who has a sale or the better price. Generally Walgreens has better prices. The Rite Aids in my area are disgusting; the lighting is so dark and the floors are filthy.

Years ago I read that the two big pharmacy stores will be Walgreens and CVS.

The only thing I bought at Rite Aid was. A double scoop of chocolate malted crunch Ice cream when I lived in So California. 5816039455_16da43267e.jpgWoman Very Happy

We have 4 Walgreens and 6 CVS in my city but 0 Rite Aids so I guess all are safe.  I have not shopped in Walgreens in several years their prices are absurd.  CVS is fine when needed for items but for prescriptions I do an independent locally owned drugstore down the street from my home.  I would love to see if Rite Aid was any different.

In our area the Rite Aids seem to be closing in favor of the Walgreens.

@Mz iMac   Interesting that Walgreens owns Riteaid.  I go to Riteaid, but Walgreens is farther away so don't go there.
