I usually go to CVS, but I had to go to Walgreen's for the first time in years the other day. Federal Express left a package there for me to pick up since I wasn't home when FedEx arrived. There must be some type of nationwide agreement for this.

@Mz iMac Our local Freds Pharmacy closed and mailed us a letter stating they had transferred our rx to Walgreens. It seems as though we are at the mercy of big business regardless and the smaller pop stores are going by the wayside.

Where I live in a town of about 90,000, we have a Walgreens on almost every corner, no seriously we do have a lot of them and only maybe 5 CVSstores....On one corner there is a Walgreens and a CVS, and the CVS parking lot is almost always near empty, yet the CVS is newer and much nicer inside.....I can see where a couple of our Walgreens could close though.......We don't have Rite-Aid where I live....

I don't think a Rire Aide even exists around here.
I have gone to Walgreens, for what I buy, CVS is better, and my prescriptions are there. We've been with the same store (and all of it's locations) since 1981.

All I know is that a corner location is what all the drugstore chains want. We have a rite aid near me. 2 miles down the road at a corner, is the Walgreen. there is usually a couple of mile separation between the chains.

@fthunt wrote:My convenient and bright Rite-Aid got closed by Walgreen last year so have had to drive to nearest "W". Not a Walgreen fan - designed like a big warehouse. So now a Dollar Store took over my fav Rite-Aid - which will cut traffic to Walgreens. Shot themselves in the foot. Yes, Dollar stores have to clear out shelves of 'out of date' products which hit the news yesterday.
Our Rite Aid also turned into a Dollar Store. They put a brand new CVS across the street from it and CVS parking lot is always empty but Walmart is now always packed. I read an article (think it was in Washington Post) recently where a woman did all her back to school shopping at a bunch of stores - CVS was the most expensive, Walmart the cheapest. What surprised me the most - is that CVS was much more expensive than even the next most expensive listed.

Walgreens prices have always been high, actually, extremely high compare to some others. I stopped shopping at Walgreens. They are everywhere and I can think of 6 off hand. Does not bother me at all.

Not around here! Walgreens and CVS are often right across the street from each other.

We have two Walgreens, two Rite Aid and three Bartell Drugs where I live. Safeway, QFC (Krogers) and Fred Meyer (Krogers) also have pharmacies. I use Costco pharmacy.
