I didn't know they are doing away with self checkouts either. Figures this would happen now that I've gotten the hang of doing it lol. I liked it for the same reason many stated because it's so much faster. I typically only use it if I have just a few items anyways. I just hope the stores will keep enough employees so everyone isn't waiting in one gigantic checkout line.

I hope not, I love & always use self checkout. If any lines they go fast, I don't get double charges and get items in the bags I want. My Walmart says they are keeping self checkouts. Depends on the store & area.

I always use self checkout at my Walmart. I like the lady that works it and since I am there very early, we chat a bit. I think my Walmart is keeping the self checkout. I use it at my grocery store too. I can bag my groceries just how I like and it is so much easier to put them away when I get home.

I went to Kohls this morning and now they have self checkout. There were about 12 people in line ahead of me to checkout and the self checkout was almost empty. I asked everyone if they were going to use self checkout and they all said no. So I went right up and checked myself out. Scanned my top and socks then scanned my Kohls Cash and then my 30%. Super simple and I think I was home while they were all still in line!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I don't recall ever leaving a Costco without having my receipt scanned. I don't care for self check but the set up at Costco is the best I have used.

YES!!!!! So tired of it. Thieves are running rampant now and getting a tiny slap on the wrist, if even that. And we, the consumers, who work hard for everything we have, and actually PAY for the things we need and want, get penalized for their actions because stores get closed, restrictions are put in place regarding hours of stores and how things are placed in the stores, and prices are increased to make up for it!

I never used self checkouts because they take a job away from someone. Besides that, there always seemed to be someone around to "help" anyway so why not another check out person. Less stealing that way too!

@AngelPuppy1 I hear you and agree completely! I could go on but won't but towns in my vicinity are being taken over by criminals who the police won't touch.

Untrue about Wegmans. I asked a manager about this and she said, not true, if anything we want to add more self check out.

@ellaphant Totally agree with you. The self checkouts at Wegman's are always busy.

What Wegman;s did do away with was the app that allowed the shopper to scan their items as they shop and then just walk out of the store when they are done.

Exactly. Wegmans commitment to self checkout is quite apparent.

And it is a myth that self checkouts eliminate jobs.

Grocery stores have dozens and dozens and dozens of job categories.

I look forward to scanning (therefore price verifying) my purchases and packing them to my liking.

Wegmans has multiple Sales Assistants available to direct you to open stations, aid with scanning and I've even had them offer to help bag if I desired.
