WalMart, Costco and Wegmans doing away with self check-out

This may be old news as I am not on here very much anymore but I just heard about it on the radio today.

Seems the reason is rampant theft.

Whatever the reason, I am glad to have the checkers back.

I liked doing self-checkout at Costco and Walmart. There are so many of them that even if the line looks long, it moves pretty quickly.

I like self-checkout at Costco. It's a LOT quicker. But, I can see the theft since nobody is there to make sure you're actually scanning every item. We almost walked out yesterday without scanning the batteries because we had put them on the rack instead of in the cart basket. DH had to go back and do another checkout. But, it was still quicker since we hadn't gotten out of the checkout area, so he didn't have to get back in line.

I usr self check out at Wegmans and evrywhete . Its faster.

I sure hope Costco does not get rid of self checkout! We normally buy only a few items so it works great for us. Our store monitors the area very well and has a staff person standing close and watching everyone.

We always use self checkout even with $400 worth of groceries. DH won't like it. Their checkers are too slow. We can get in & out faster doing it. Nothing like standing in line at Wal-Mart. I know they won't have enough checkers. That's ok we will leave so we can go to the grocery store. Wal-Mart doesn't have the lowest prices.

Oh Please No!

Our Costco used to have 2 human cashiers to check people out. Going to self check out was the only way to get out of the store in a reasonable amount of time.

A few weeks ago my Target had closed self-checkout due to theft. A week later it was back open.

With all the people standing nearby and all the cameras, I think it would be a very bad idea to steal while the cameras are right above you, filming everything.

Apparently, people have figured it out, though. Crazy.

I tend to go to Wegman's once a week when I'm in NJ. At first I only used regular check out but their self check out is so easy to use I have only been using that for at least 6 months now. I hope they don't take it away from the one that I shop at!
