Mileage and climate also have a lot to do with the longevity of a car.  I drive 25-30,000 miles a year.  All my Hondas have only had basic maintenance.  After 6 or 7 years and pushing 200,000 miles it is time for a new one.

We have a 1970 classic. My dh does all the maintenance on it himself. It's so easy to. We only buy American made vehicles and they last forever.

You must put 500 miles a year on your cars...lol.  I think it takes a lot more than regular maintenence to keep an ancient car like that on the road.

@PuppyLoverBob666  - How many miles do you have on it?  That makes all the difference in the world in longevity.

DH and I each have a 2007 Lexus. We do scheduled maintenance and have never thought about trading either of them for new ones. We have a great auto service place whose owner worked at the dealership when we bought our cars new...so he knows our cars inside and out. Cars are too expensive not to take care of them.

Who is this adressed to? If it's me, you're wrong. We DO have regular maintenance on our cars and have been with the same mechanic for years so he knows our cars inside out. If he tells us there's a mechanical problem, we fix it. Do you have the impression we just change the oil every so often? No true; there's a lot more to "regular maintenence" than that.

I'm not impressed unless you tell me it has over 300,000 miles and is still going. Any car that's hardly driven with low miles will last forever. That's common sense.

A family member has a 10 year old car with 35k miles-it's barely driven. Mine is 2 years old and I'm pushing 34k miles. It had less than 10 miles on it when I purchased it. I drive alot!!

@sometimesQVCaddict    I agree with this. I bought my first Honda Accord in 1993. I was still working then and driving all over the state of Georgia. It took a real beating. I had 246,000 miles on it when I traded it in for a 2004 Accord. That car didn't get quite as many miles but I traded that one in at 150,000 for a Honda CRV in 2015. But agree that regular maintenance does pay off.
