Re: WILLIAM AND KATE'S FIRST OFFICIAL JOINT PORTRAIT

I don't like the dress.  She is still too young to wear such a frumpy dress.  It looks like something the Queen would wear.

Re: WILLIAM AND KATE'S FIRST OFFICIAL JOINT PORTRAIT

From Hello Canada:

Of the portrait, the artist said: "It has been the most extraordinary privilege of my life to be chosen to paint this picture. I wanted to show Their Royal Highnesses in a manner where they appeared both relaxed and approachable, as well as elegant and dignified.

"As it is the first portrait to depict them together, and specifically during their time as The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, I wanted the image to evoke a feeling of balance between their public and private lives.

I particularly like the pose...each has an arm around the other, William's hand in his pocket. Just a bit more casual than the norm, even though they are dressed very elegantly.

Re: WILLIAM AND KATE'S FIRST OFFICIAL JOINT PORTRAIT

The artist painted their faces very well but the treatment of Kates dress looks clumsy and amateurish -especially the sheen of the fabric and the ruffle -  and Williams black suit is flat and he looks stiff.

they do look to be staring into space and just plopped into that dismal taupe background. the artist needs to take a few more art classes and study painting of women's fashions.

I think the photographer achieved his goal of balance between their public and private lives. Not too "ballroom" and not too relaxed.  I love that color on Kate and the matching tie on William. To me it's just "them".

The artist is a graduate of Oxford and numerous awards.

Re: WILLIAM AND KATE'S FIRST OFFICIAL JOINT PORTRAIT

There's something about Kate's face that doesn't look like Kate.  In all of the zillions of photographs of her I have never seen that expression on her face, which either means the artist captured a side of Kate we have never seen, or he missed the mark.  I like the pose.

I think I need to look at it a few more times for my brain to process it completely.

The dress has an awkward dart around the bust. It looks odd.  @raspberrygal

Love the Portrait but Kate looks like she is wearing a bullet bra.

Re: WILLIAM AND KATE'S FIRST OFFICIAL JOINT PORTRAIT

Kate's photography skills certainly depict them much better than this portrait artist who, I am sure, did it from a photograph and not a sitting.  I don't think, however, he captured the real essence of Kate.
