I am seeking advice and recommendations for removal of facial hair. I have hair on cheeks and neck that I would like to get rid of permanently. I am not interested in shaving because I am afraid I will be too self conscious if I missed a spot. Use tweezers on irregular chin hairs and upper lip but must use magnifying mirror daily to keep up.

I spent hours with electrolysis trying to get rid of facial hair.
Now I use Vaniqua (generic from AllDayChemist). I use it on mustache area, around bottom of lip and chin. Apply thin layer 2x day. Before using I used the Sally Hansen hair remover. Be very careful and do not leave on as long as the directions say.
If I want my sides hairless, I shave or use the cream and between brows just tweeze or shave.
I asked the derm about laser hair removal. The response was not an option for my skin pigment type.
it's miserable, isn't it.

@granddi Yes, I agree with you, it is miserable, but becomes part of the "regular hygiene" routine.

You can only permanently get rid of dark hair. I had laser hair removal on my chin and upper lip. I had four treatments and spread them out over a year. They recommend once a month but I would rather allow more hair to grow so I don't have to do as many treatments. You cannot pluck the whole time you are being treated because the roots needs to be there. I used a facial razor called Twinkle and it worked really well. I also use it on the peach fuzz on other areas of my face. I highly recommend it as long as you understand that it only gets rid of dark hair, it is a long process, and you can't pluck at all.

Once I went the electrolysis route for six months ( for the most part there wasn't much permanent improvement). I now shave my cheeks, upper lip and chin daily. I can sometimes feel a stubby hair but without a magnifying mirror others couldn't see it. Another option that I used to use was hot wax which really leaves the areas waxed very smooth( I did it myself with OTC wax). In general I feel shaving with a man's handheld razor is best solution and it exfoliate your skin at the same time.

When I was in my 20s I was mugged. I was thrown to the curb/street face first. The Doctor sewed my forehead, nose and chin back together. He did a wonderful job but my one eyebrow had the hair going in all different directions.
For several years I went to an Electrolysis. She was not cheap but she knew what she was doing. It was well worth the money and time I spent.
It might take awhile but it really is permanent. And well worth it.

My daughter has dark hair and had noticable facial hair on her chin and above her upper lip. She spent a lot of money going for electrolysis that lasted about 9 months to a year. It helped some but never permanently got rid of the hair.
Several years ago, I bought one of those (expensive) laser hand held facial hair removal machines (can't remember the name) which was supposed to permanently remove the hair. Again, it helped for a while, but the hair did grow back. So, now she just uses a ladies electric shaver and that's it.

The person doing the Electrolysis can determine the amount of zap of electricity that you get. So if you are uncomfortable they can lower it.
I used to have it done during my lunch hour at work. So she didn't do a powerful zap. So I didn't go back to work with a beet red eyebrow.

Oh, @drizzellla , I'm so sorry this happened to you. I remember from previous posts that you hail from the same city as me. I feel disgusted that you were mugged and had to endure facial stitches and electrolysis. I'm sure you are well now and it is behind you, but I just want you to know that your post touched me.
