Dr. Comfort Shoes

[ Edited ]

This message was deleted from the "Shoes" forum.  Hoping to get feedback from the Community forum.

Has anyone tried this brand of orthopedic shoes?  Opinions please, if you have. In the past I mentioned here Orthofeet brand which were just OK for a while    I'm suffering from heel spurs and am looking for some relief.

I've never tried them, but I can tell you that they were sold through the podiatrist office where I used to work, specifically for diabetics.

They were covered by Medicare, with custom made orthotics/inserts, again for diabetics only.  I don't remember them being recommended for plantar fasciitis, but I suppose if your podiatrist is planning on making you orthotics, they could fit them inside these shoes easily.

If you are getting them through a podiatrist's office, probably way too much money for what they actually are as far as quality is concerned.

I myself have plantar fasciitis and I prefer a very flexible sole and light weight shoe, with a good arch support.  Seems like the shoes sold through the podiatrist were always a very stiff, hard vinyl sole.

I actually saw a conversation on a podiatry blog about the question of very stiff soles, why they were "recommended" and no one had an answer for it.

This summer I am wearing Vionic flip flops that I got here at QVC a few years ago.  It took that long for the "bump" in the arch to settle down to where it wasn't uncomfortable, and I find that I appreciate the rubbery cushiony feel more so than my Birkenstocks cork bed.  I've got a disc problem, so need the extra cushion for my back.  I've got a bunion, too, and the flip flops don't irritate it.

I don't recall any of our patients being overly impressed with the quality of Dr. Comfort.  They were very expensive, but paid for by Medicare, so they went with them.

@GrailSeeker Thank you for ALL that great information.  I was hoping for that before ordering from Dr. Comfor.  Instead I ordered a pair and am hoping they fit and are comfortable.  If not, they'll be returned. Thanks, again.
